Luxurious Small Building Designs, Future of Suburban Dwelling

Dec 2, 2014 -- Everyone imagines and wants a home they have always dreamt of. This dream home differs from person to person, as a teenager you might dream of a house with a separate home theater, a room of your own, where you can call your friends for a stay over, a separate swimming pool a sports room and the list goes on.

If you have a hectic work lifestyle, you might dream of a house that is peaceful that is your personal recluse from the hustle bustle at your work place, for elderly couples a dream home might be an easy to manage small cottage. So in a nutshell, the house that people dream of differs from person to person, however you cannot always have what you dream of. You might dream of a huge palatial property but your budget is barely enough for a small double storey house design.

So does that stops you from dreaming? With effective planning and designing, very small spaces, studio apartments and double storey floor plans can be transformed into a place that is a realization of your dreams.

What makes me write this article is the fact that for most of the clients, cost is the prime focus, and giving them the kind house that resembles their dreams, within the limited space and budgeting constraints is a challenge for architects and designers.

Dream Home Exterior Design

The exterior – i.e. how a building looks from outside, creates a first impression. However landscaping the garden and the area around your building, makes it look aesthetic, cozy and appealing; and this gives a touch of luxury to your house.

Small Home Interior Design – Building the House of your dreams

Utilizing the unique assets your building location and its architecture such as a window with a view, or the under the stairs space etc can be used effectively as ‘the highlight of your home interiors’. Creating unique spaces that inspire awe, that make you want to sit there and spend quality time, is the actual beauty of architecture and an interior design.

Intelligent investor!

Smaller buildings often turn in huge advantages. Home owners believe that smaller places are better because they do not have an overbearing on your life. Moreover, investors do not want to put all the eggs in one basket. They prefer buying multiple smaller properties at different places, than investing all their money in a single place.

Luxury Homes Redefined

Until now luxury homes were defined by expansive landscapes, lavish palatial properties, huge rooms and heavy tapestry. However today, Americans have redefined luxury. Some hi-end home owners are cropping down the size of buildings and investing more in smart design and sustainability – ‘NZEB is definitely the new wave’.

When creative minds are challenged by giving them a really limited space, really interesting designs evolve. A small canvas can carry the most beautiful paintings. Even a small two storey house design can be opulent and look luxurious.

Here you can see a very tiny house design by Yasuhiro Yamashita. The eccentric building design was built on a very small piece of land.

Some tips that can make your small house look spacious:

Most important part is to choose a theme for your home decor, it can be minimalistic modern, bohemian style, opulent, an outdoor or nature based theme etc. Now design your interior and choose the furnishings, furniture style, tapestry etc based on this theme.

An open kitchen and a studio apartment style interior can help you make optimum utilization of the limited space you have. A banquet style dining that can be converted into an extra sitting space for the living area can create spacious room for entertaining guests.

Architects can design a building such that spaces are created at different levels; the ceiling heights can be different as well. This allows utilize the limited space in the best possible manner and also gives an illusion of more space.

Luxury is when you get everything handy, without as much as moving a finger. So lace your home with modern amenities. Put your money in the right place, and invest more in a green building home design. When your rooms are warm in winters and conditioned in summers, when you get warm/hot water from the tap whenever you wish to; without a worry about the mounting utility bills and the burden that you are using valuable energy resources for your luxuries, it the most comforting feeling.
