Intergraph® SmartPlant® Electrical-ETAP Interface Marks 6th Year of Proven Results for Electrical Engineers

Tool allows owner operators and EPC companies to use ETAP for modeling, design, analysis and automation, then integrate data into SPEL for increased efficiency

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 16, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  Intergraph® Process, Power & Marine, the leading provider of enterprise engineering software dedicated to the process, power and marine industries, and its partner, ETAP, have offered since 2008 an electrical engineering and design tool that combines ETAP's enterprise solution software for electrical power systems with SmartPlant® Electrical (SPEL) to provide a bi-directional interface.

The SPEL-ETAP Data Exchange Interface allows joint users to use ETAP for modeling, design, analysis and automation, and then integrate that data into SPEL to increase electrical efficiency for the construction, operation, and maintenance for the life cycle of a plant.

SmartPlant Electrical is a task-specific and rule-driven solution designed to help plant owners achieve business success. It helps users to create and maintain a safe and reliable power distribution from load identification to plant startup, with input taken from mechanical drawings and P&IDs to interface with other vendors' analysis products, such as ETAP, for design verification.

Intergraph has long been recognized as the market leader for providing innovative solutions that support the engineering work process and operational task to help plants increase productivity and improve their bottom line.

For owner operators, the ETAP Real-Time model-driven power management system provides the situational intelligence and online predictive analytics required to ensure that the facility operates as designed by the ETAP and SPEL solutions.

Numerous Intergraph customers currently use the SPEL-ETAP interface as part of their operations, including Air Liquide Global E&C Solutions, a business unit of the Air Liquide Group and technology partner of choice for the design, engineering and construction of leading-edge processing facilities and related infrastructures worldwide.

"At Air Liquide Global E&C Solutions, safety is top priority. To ensure power designs meet or exceed local codes and regulations, ETAP has become an integral tool in the design and simulation of distribution equipment. SPEL provides an electronic avenue for the transfer of equipment data sheets from the source provider to the data consumer, ETAP. The Data Exchange feature saves time and reduces errors, which increase the safety standard as well as increase productivity in our engineering services," said Charlie Pruitt, SmartPlant Electrical administrator at Air Liquide.

"The interoperability between ETAP and SPEL applications reduces design effort and enables higher design quality, increased productivity and more accurate analysis and early confirmation of requirements," said Shervin Shokooh, chief operating officer of ETAP. "When the designed system is taken online, ETAP's Real-Time system provides the situational intelligence needed to analyze the data, and provide actionable information and visual decision support to the owner-operators."

Patrick Holcomb, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine's executive vice president of global business development and marketing, said, "Intergraph and ETAP have a long-standing partnership and will continue to provide innovative electrical engineering solutions superior to any similar product on the market. We've learned a great deal and made many enhancements with ETAP to better serve our mutual client needs. As projects grow larger and more complex, we will continue to innovate and re-invent these solutions to meet the demands of customers."
