Kengo Kuma and Associates (KKAA) have taken on larger and more complex projects, and expanded around the globe. Through this growth, as KKAA worked to maintain data accuracy, a strain was put on its previous 3D modeling software.
The company therefore adopted the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud—and the Design for Fabrication industry solution experience—to accurately manage a wide variety of parameters in real-time, across multiple disciplines, during the development of architectural projects.
As a result, KKAA streamlined its design creation and change processes, created a single database of revisions for future reference, and improved design quality while retaining the essence of the “Kengo Kuma” design philosophy.

By 2050, two-thirds of the world’s population will live in cities, the United Nations Human Settlements Program forecasts.
Meanwhile cities themselves are growing, with the number of megacities—those with populations greater than 10 million—expected to hit 41 by 2030, up from 28 today and just 10 in 1990.
The challenge is how to make sprawling, dense cities livable, sustainable and efficient for residents. But priorities for livability aren’t easy to define.
“If you have an older population, then things they see as priorities may be different than in a city with a huge number of young people,” says Stephen Hammer, manager of climate policy for the World Bank Group in Washington, DC.

Imagine you’re a hotelier. Your newest property—let’s call it a high-end resort in the south of France—has gone into construction, but is not yet fully designed. Your firm is based in New York. Renovating and retrofitting existing buildings can increase their longevity, reduce their energy use and beautify or modernize.
With commercial buildings that need renovation, “usually the target is to have a result that’s aesthetically nice, healthy and at the least cost,” says Marc LaFrance, energy analyst, buildings sector, at the International Energy Agency. “If somebody comes from that approach but says, ‘I want the least-energy-consuming building possible within my budget,’ that would lead to a different set of measures.”
