First BIM model for China Shipbuilding NDRI Engineering Co., Ltd. is towering success

One of the finalists in the Innovation in Building Category in the Be Inspired Awards 2013, was China Communications Construction Construction Limited Southern Headquarters’ project China Shipbuilding NDRI Engineering Co., Ltd.
The CNY 75 million project by China Shipbuilding NDRI Engineering located in the coastal region of the Zhujiang Houhangdao River in Guangzhou, China, includes the construction of a 43-story building for CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering. The main building is 198.9 meters high, which falls into the super-high building category of exceeding the largest applicable height.
Kai Hu, and Yan Teng said that they used Bentley lifecycle solutions, and BIM performance analysis to check what was their first BIM model, which included architecture, structure, power, piping, HVAC, and cable tray. Specifically, China Shipbuilding NDRI Engineering used MicroStation, Bentley Building, Bentley Architecture, Bentley Building Mechanical System, Structural Modeler, ProjectWise, and Bentley Raceway and Cable Management for building information modeling, management, and mobility contributing to a 10 percent efficiency improvement. ProjectWise was used to manage and control the BIM design workflow, establish the 3D project file management, and manage review and approval.
All exported attributions went into the in the DPE modeler. ProjectWise was the team’s coordination platform, and they used CFD simulation analysis based on BIM (exterior Wind Environment).
Sun analysis was used to improve the natural lighting in the building and minimize radiation from sunlight. The firm also analyzed seismic response in structural analysis as well as slab structure performance.
