SV Palladio – Strandbaden in Höganäs, Sweden by DinellJohansson

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Article source: DinellJohansson

This small summerhouse at the coast of Höganäs was modeled after Palladios famous villas in the Veneto. Different from those extraordinary estates, this house is all about spatial economy. The goal was to create a maximum amount of spatial subdivisions in a building whose size was limited by budget constraints. With Palladios villas it shares the intriguing quality of the cross shaped space and the idea of summer life as an utterly joyful experience.

Article source: FMD Architects

The site is a residential block in Lorne, Victoria. Several large eucalyptus trees are clustered in the southeastern end of the block, offering a treed streetscape context to the site.

The house was to contain individual zones for the couple and their 2 adult daughters, with the opportunity to separate access between the spaces. A large Living and Dining space with outdoor entertaining areas were required, within which all family members and friends could congregate. Another important brief requirement was a space in which the client could practice yoga, offering spatial isolation with an external outlook.

GIS Stations in Denmark by C. F. Møller Architects

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Article source: C. F. Møller Architects

The Danish energy infrastructure operator is actively upgrading the visual appearance of the Danish power grid. As a result, the large open-air switchgear stations are gradually being replaced with gas-insulated switchgears – also called GIS stations. The idea is to give the technical enclosure of these stations, typically placed in the open landscape, a distinct architectonic profile, and at the same time maximise their future flexibility.

Article source: EFFEKT

Nature Centre:

The visitors centre is situated in the pristine forest of Hareskoven in the vicinity of Copenhagen. It is a portal to the almost 1 million visitors that uses the forest annually. It hosts a 1000 square meter large visitor centre with café, exhibition space, rental, learning and research facilities and a caretaker’s residence.

The building is shaped like a star resembling the pathways in the forest that surrounds it. The pathways used to be a part of the old kings hunting grounds. They could provide a panoramic overview over the position of the prey in the forest. Now they serve as a historical memory and are a beautiful and unique feature of Hareskoven.

Linking city to river promenade, the new Beethoven Symphony Hall rises – a beacon of light, a porous multifaceted crystalline mass,  growing out of earth,  floating on water. This iconic structure, its two embedded performance spaces softly visible from without, becomes a ‘performer’ in its own right after dark.

Small House in Massachusetts by Maryann Thompson Architects

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Article source: Maryann Thompson Architects

Located in Western Massachusetts, the site is a 10-acre sliver of land that runs down an eastern mountain slope of large red oak and birch trees. To preserve and inhabit this forested landscape, the house nestles into its wooded setting with views through the long trunks of downslope trees. The program requirements were to create a simple, modest-sized, 750sf two-bedroom house with the feel of a one-room cabin.
