Netherlands Broadcasting Music Centre in Hilversum, Netherlands by COEN! Design Agency

Friday, April 1st, 2011

The monumental entrance hall of the Netherlands Broadcasting Music Centre, originally designed by architect Elling and afterwards restyled by ‘Architects Cie’ is metamorfosed into a fresh and spacious whole. The new reception and waiting room have been transformed into two large kiosks. All in harmony with the existing building but definitely bearing the Coen van Ham signature. The brightly coloured new furniture give the library and large entrance hall a sparkling, musical red blaze.

YSY House in Seto, Japan by Akitoshi Ukai/AUAU

Friday, April 1st, 2011

It is a small house for two small children and young couple. The blank and coming in succession were invented by making the best use of the vertical interval in the small hill, making “Enclosure” as the life scene place in the average of a dynamic flow that connected the earth to the sky, and dressing “Wear” the outside. This creates an inside, outside new relation and sense of distance, reinforces the subject soft “Enclosure” structurally by “Wear”, assumes the strengthened plan, and has both the role to ease the thermal environment in the environment.

The Garoa Store in Sao Paulo, Brazil by Una Arquitetos

Friday, April 1st, 2011

The Garoa store is located in a small plot at one of the most sophisticated commercial streets of São Paulo, the Oscar Freire Street. We see the corner as the place where the building has its best exposure for it is there that it is two times linked to the street, to the sidewalk.  Right at this encounter of streets, a dent in the building was drawn as if a portion of its volume had been extracted, defining two transparent planes, which shows the store interior and expands its presence in the corner.  The indentation was thought to intensify the most immediate relationship with the public space.  Even though the plot is located at the beginning of the street, the traffic has its single direction opposite to the corner in which the building is. That condition led us to think that, the sight to the corner or even to the Oscar Freire Street, will be more pleasant if taken from the oblique sights. That has the effect that the transparencies of the store do not follow lines parallel to the street, and do not reproduce a façade but rather define a volume.

Inkanta Design Store in Miami Beach, Florida by NC-Office Architecture designed using AutoCAD

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

The project is a retail interior located at the 1111 Building on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. The space is defined by two walls which contain the display cases. The walls are inflected to engage the customer from the exterior and to provide an integrated display at the storefront. The kink within the walls increases the display surface area while at the same time making every portion of the store visible to the sales-person. The sales area is defined by stainless steel panels which are perforated in order to reduce the weight of the heavy steel as well as to create a pixilated light pattern.
