B House in London by Studio Octopi

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Studio Octopi designed this beautiful  house in London. Located on the site of a former stately home, the historic and existing boundary walls still dictate the layout of the houses in this area of London. Working with the multiple boundary changes, the proposed house sets up a dialogue between the various levels and volumes throughout the 5000sqft of accommodation.

The Cultural Center of European Space Technologies (KSEVT)

With its program, The Cultural Center of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) will supplement the local cultural and social activities of the Arts Center in Vitanje. With its size and typology the existing object already indicates a publicly significant role, but its capacity and technological design no longer suffice for newer collective requirements.

Aichinger House with external curtains in Kronstorf, Austria by Hertl Architekten

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Hertl Architekten designed the Aichinger house which used to be a restaurant, composed of two bars, bounded by a cross wing. The challenge was to renovate one of the buildings and to expand it to two flats. One of these bars should be thermal renovated and expanded into two flats. With few convertions of the existing walls it works to organize a new space use. The first floor and the cellar can be reached by an outdoor stairway made of concrete.

Net Zero Zona House in Jacksonville, Florida designed using ArchiCAD

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

John Zona III designed this house as Net Zero home. As a net zero home, the Zona property consumes no more power than it produces. The greenhouse carries solar photovoltaic panels that can produce 6.5 kwH. A special electric meter enables the compound to sell electricity back to the grid during sunny spells and borrow from the grid when sunlight is scarce.

House design R 129 by Werner Sobek

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

In recent years there has seen rapid progress in the development of materials, nanotechnology and sensor technology. The resulting new developments and techniques are being intensively applied in industries such as automobile engineering, aircraft construction and aerospace technology; building construction, on the other hand is, at the beginning of the 3rd millennium, still largely using concepts, techniques and materials that have hardly changed for decades or even centuries. To achieve real progress in the construction industry, its basic methods have to be questioned and maybe defined anew.
