Air Tree – Madrid Pavilion Public Space – Expo 2010 Shanghai (CN)

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Throughout history, World Exhibitions have shown the latest inventions in technology alongside the latest expressions of art. From this perspective, the Air Tree for ecosistema urbano client Fundación Madrid Global emerges as an experimental prototype of intervention in contemporary urban public space, capable of reactivating sites and creating the conditions to empower the use of the collective space. It is conceived as a technological urban furniture, a self-sufficient climatic comfort generator, that is being used not only as a breathing space but interactively as well.

A House Of The Artist As A Young Man in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by Arquitetura da Vila

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

The project is for the home of a young couple, in a terraced house constructed in the beginning of the 20th century, in Jardim Botanico, Rio de Janeiro, and aims at establishing harmony among the existing set, the interventions made, and the environment, preserving the guidelines of its historical heritage. The goal was to fulfill the needs of its future residents. The factory-hand terraced houses form a set of 8 houses with practically the same kind of occupation of the allotment [50%] and dimensions of [4.5m o- façade per 18m -depth]. It is a preserved area by the historical heritage, and definitions draw the guidelines for the project. Firstly, the volumetric analysis and characteristics of the existing set of houses should be maintained, formed by the main façade towards the street [preserving the proportions and existing voids], the roof in ceramic tile, and the internal façade [which can be altered for new interspaces, but preserving the original structure].

Ospedale Sant’ Agostino, Modena, Italy 2010 by Carlo Ratti

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

The project for Sant’ Agostino was born and developed around a reflection on the main element that characterizes the site: its network of courtyards and open spaces that provide access and a flow of movement through the space. This is articulated in the architectural stratification, symptomatic of the history and evolution of the Sant’ Agostino complex.

The different layers of architecture are an integral and important part of the very soul of this place.
