Winterview Residence in Hendersonville, North Carolina

Friday, April 15th, 2011

The clients’ property is situated along a steeply sloped, heavily wooded ravine in the mountains of North Carolina. They asked us for a modern house that embodied the tactile qualities of the mountains and allowed the beauty of the surrounding landscape to dominate. Dune House by Gianluca Santosuosso

Friday, April 15th, 2011

The concept behind the DUNE House project is to create a flexible tool* more than a design where the client has the possibility to define his own house. Mainly, the idea is based on a system composed by different volumes where each of them represents a program or a cluster of it (bedroom and bathroom, kitchen, swimming poll, etc.) and the client is able to distribute them on the plot and creating every kind of space and connection that he prefers.

Casas San Juan in Cuernavaca Morelos, Mexico

Friday, April 15th, 2011

The Project lies in a very dry area in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos in Mexico. The city was nicknamed the “City of Eternal Spring” by Alexander von Humboldt in the 19th century. One our away from México City, the most important summer states for the Aztecs and in present times as well for the inhabitant of Mexico City’s. The name “Cuernavaca” is derived from the Nahuatl phrase Cuauhnahuac, and means “surrounded by or close to trees.” The name was eventually Hispanicized to Cuernavaca because the Spanish could not pronounce the Nahuatl name.

Downtown Apartment in Zagreb, Croatia by DVA Arhitekta

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Project interventions revives the flexibility of former plan solutions – three to four rooms facing the street facade. Double door set in the middle of the wall between the rooms is a key element of spatial organization of downtown housing. Once, rooms used to be salons and rooms for diverse daily activities, and today an open space plan allows a variuos number of activities to happen simultaneously. In new spatial conception, the doors remain, but not only as a memory of old times, but as a functional and partition element separating and connecting at the same time different functional zones. All other rooms are scaled to fit Zagreb Downtown home lifestyle: a lavish and representative entrance hall, very comfortable master bedroom and discreetly incorporated laundry room, dressing room and pantry.

THIN FLATS in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia by Plumbob Llc.

Friday, April 15th, 2011

First LEED-H Platinum duplex residences in the U.S.A.

This eight unit residential project explores the highly efficient and architecturally latent potentials hidden within the traditional form of the Philadelphia “Row” home. The vertical rhythm, regularity yet diversity of this most prevalent residential urban typology was the primary source of inspiration for this experiment. Thin faces fronting both Laurel and Pollard Streets mask and blur conventional lines of demarcation between all eight duplex dwellings both vertically and horizontally. In the process, a degree of density yet expansiveness uncommon to the thin space of the urban duplex emerges.  The Philadelphia “Row” is by nature a long, thin slice of dense, sustainable, urban space, typically ‘light-deficient’ and insular at its core. Thin Flats questions this traditional ‘deficiency’ by spatially reconfiguring the relationship between the interior and it’s skin such that its ‘core’ is flooded with light and air. This skin also affords each room on the ‘periphery’ of the dwelling the ability to step outside, and yet remain within the skin.
