Entrance

The mission of the new terminal was to serve as a communications gateway linking Barcelona with the rest of Europe, to foster connections traffic and to improve accessibility to the airport by different forms of transport (high-speed train, local trains and the future extension of Barcelona underground). It can accommodate an annual turnover of 25 million passengers, which doubles the figures of all the present terminals put together. The building comprises two main blocks under the same roof: one up to 500 metres wide, set aside for check-in, security and baggage collection, which connects passengers to the different forms of transport, and the other 700 metres long, accommodating the embarkation, waiting and shopping areas. The transparency of the buildings allows natural light to flood all the areas reserved for passengers and provides panoramic views of the runways with the sea and greenery in the background.
