Palisades House in Los Angeles, California by Studio Shift Architect

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

This major renovation to a single-family home in Los Angeles on a rather dramatic site aims to provide multiple direct connections to the outdoors maximizing exposure to the newly landscaped rear yard that abuts a small creek. An upper, exterior deck extends out from the living room placing you among the trees and bamboo, a soft green buffer that effectively maintains a veil of privacy. The lower deck connects the master bedroom and the two children’s bedrooms with casual seating areas and a jacuzzi tub.

‘House in Warsaw’ in TUKANA STREET, WARSAW, Poland by DAMIAN CYRYL KOTWICKI

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

The main idea of the project was to design an optimal land use compatible with the investor’s programme and the conditions of land building scheme. The plot is very small ca.600m2 with the entrance from the south,so with common parts we are opening to the south and west. Additionally from the South I withdraw elevation on the ground floor, creating a terrace with arcades thus it fell back farther from the street. I wanted to make this house very simple in plan and form, referring to the classic house. By using precious linings of brick with concrete, wood for warming the perception,titanium-zinc sheet as well as large glazed five-meter I created the impression of modern structure in a classic shape. For a breakdown of the length of the roof I used a one bay on each side what additionally ameliorate the block and create a more usable space in the attic.

Trade Fair Centre in La Spezia, Italy by MMAA Architects designed using Vectorworks and Cinema4D

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

The new expo pavilion has been built in a former industrial area previously occupied by a pasta factory. The building, which features a coated iron structure and envelope made of titanium-zinc panels and vast glazed surfaces, takes the form of a long parallelepiped, folded over on itself, that soars up from the ground, jutting out sharply at the end to shelter the entrance facing the pre-existing multiplex. The shape of the building is based on the idea of creating an architectural promenade that unfurls from the highest point of the building, through an exhibition space, down to the bottom.

Capps Residence in San Antonio, Texas by Poteet Architects

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

The Capps house was constructed in 1896, designed by German Architect Albert Beckman, one of several distinctive masonry homes in King William that Beckman was responsible for. Though continuously occupied since its construction, the property was suffering from a good deal of deferred maintenance when taken over by new owners Travis Capps and Lee Anthony. The wrap- around porch was rotted and sagging and the large lawn and river front were overgrown.

Green Pavilion Restaurant in Zagreb, Croatia

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

The most important element and the inspiration for this project is the location itself, with extremely high quality existing vegetation, which is densely distributed throughout the plot and gradually diluted out toward the eastern edge. The idea of the new Pavilion / Restaurant is to construct a space by mapping the area of high quality trees and to define the remaining territory for construction. By raising this “cut” green territory in the air the space “below” is created. The basic formal and functional element and a seasonal regulator of light is so-called “vegetative” canopy that has been formed along the entire roof edge.
