Mobile Cubes in Paris, France by Atelier 37.2

May 18th, 2011 by Sumit Singhal

These mobile cubes are made of 3mm micro-perforated steel. The perforations are graphic, functional and narrative. They create a slight transparency that conveys a sense of mystery to the scene inside the cube. They preserve intimacy while allowing air circulation. One side of the cube is to be deciphered: famous photographers’ quotes are cut out of steel in Braille alphabet.

Mobile Cubes

A plywood massive block that seems to have been carved to display photo books within its walls. Designed for the production team attending the shooting, this cube is mobile and flexible.

Mobile Cubes

This mobile and folding cube is made of 3mm steel. As such, it is a minimal looking styling cabin. In its multiple opened out configurations, it get dressed by the clothing and accessories of the shooting, and eventually becomes a part of the set.

Mobile Cubes

Through its « chill-out » esthetic and functionality, this cube tends to suggest a shift in our indoor – outdoor perception. Covered by oak’s strips, this mobile cube is designed for the production team.

Mobile Cubes

The aim of this project is to redesign the Paris based photo studios «Le Petit Oiseau Va Sortir» into a space melting Art, Fashion and Architecture.

Product

Through a series of smart and mobile cubes, Atelier 37.2 has conceived a very specific micro-architectural language to transform the photo studios. Each cube is a prototype designed for a specific function: hair/make-up, styling, production, entrance. Each cube is a sensual and aesthetic proposal : corten and plywood, folding plain steel, Braille perforated steel, plywood and books. Each cube is an intimate and narrative space within the wide-open spaces of the various photo studios.

While increasing performance and conviviality, this intervention has transformed the studios LPOVS into a unique contemporary space, inspiring for photographers and their teams.

Product

37.2 is a micro-architecture atelier / studio. Its production and research are centred on the relational potential of space. Through its very familiarity a large part of our daily life remains invisible to us, compromising our ability to see and feel anything significant. Our artistic and architectural approach consists of creating and applying spatial layouts that provoke a shift in our everyday perception. Like any artwork, architecture should create and maintain a constant dialogue with those who experience it, stimulating the fictional potential of life.
