Invited international competition – 2010_second prize
The project proposes two layered volumes embracing the rich mix of different programs and distributed in:
base of the volume as public programs and offices
top floors as apartments
The tower strip steps up and down according to the urban height limits and form terraces-gardens. Public Base volumes are separated and create open squares – dialog of external plaza with public programs and offices. Spaces are communicative, bright, fluid, and easily accessible and offer nice views and connections with surroundings: Strenia square, Park and roads.
The B Tower is located in the centre of Rotterdam, immediately adjacent to the Bijenkorf department store designed by Marcel Breuer in the late 1950s. Because of its commercial context the site below the Bijenkorf’s roofline is to be fully occupied, while above it, just thirty per cent of the lot towards the sunken shopping mall Beurstraverse, has been released to build a high-rise tower. In order to avoid splitting the project into a basement and a tower, the design stacks three volumes of similar height. The ground-related volume contains a fashion store, The Sting, and a car park; the two upper volumes contain apartments.
EUROPEAN CHESS HOUSE IN HERCEG NOVI COMPETITION PROPOSAL
Agency for development of Municipality of Herceg Novi in association with European Chess Union has launched a single stage International competition for the European Chess House in Herceg Novi. The purpose of the competition was finding a best solution for the mixed use development. The program consisted of facilities devoted to promotion and development of chess (library, museum and tournament halls) and of hotel facilities ( 50 guest rooms, restaurant and lobby). The site is located on the corner between two streets, on steeply sloping terrain.
During the summer of 2008 the architecture study of Arturo Franco –in collaboration with Juan Arregui- won an open bid in which more than 100 teams took part, seeking for the concession of the refurbishment of buildings 8 and 9 of the former Slaughterhouse of Madrid. The intention was to transform the 15,000 m2 of the tripe area and the leather drying facilities into a space capable of having different cultural, artistic and leisure uses.
Our task consisted in remodeling a house located in downtown Melipilla and converting it into a restaurant and coffee house. The original building presented a rather closed-in and inflexible design plus several additions of very low quality in the back side of the property.
V Tower is a residential high rise positioned atop of a base of retail, restaurant, cafe, and parking. The project establishes a new ‘ground’ plane above this volume by providing residents with an urban park occupying the full dimensions of the site and building footprint, creating a sense that the tower is built at grade. Among the amenities provided at this level are generous open areas of grass, a pool, and community garden.
The client asked box urban architects to provide spacious accommodation for a growing family by extension to a house. Examination of the existing condition in conjunction with the brief indicated that replacing the house would be a more sustainable option. The design brief was to subvert the existing typically suburban spatial condition, to provide for a building of architectural quality informed by its context and provide flexible accommodation for a large family. The design intent was to accommodate best practice in lifetime design to promote physical, economic and social sustainability in a resilient built form with a robust spatial hierarchy.
The plot of land is marked by its sharp southwards slope and its limited access with complicated bends, which also place a limit on the building’s height level. On the land are several notable mature trees.
International Architecture Competition for the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
„The project under consideration should be located in the bay of the city of Rio de Janeiro on the Cotonduba Island, which is the obligatory approach for aircraft landing and will comprise a vertical structure which will seek to become a symbol for those arriving in Rio, creating an image potent enough to enable Rio to triumph in its bid to host the summer Olympics in 2016. The challenge, therefore, consists of designing a observation tower which will become a symbol welcoming all those who visit Rio de Janeiro, whether they arrive by air or sea.“
In the vast nature reserve of “pinhal da Comporta” recognized for its typical coastal habitat of pine woods growing on the sand dunes of Atlantic ocean, one surprising element makes the location one of the special “corners” of the universe – the water.
