The general operation is the modernization of Alcântara’s Domestic Wastewater Treatment Station. Because of the environmental preservation, it was indispensable the creation of a cover for this big equipment. The program had also foreseen two service buildings, to be located at the side of the Station: one to control the Station, another to serve as headquarters to the responsible public company.

Shade Pergolas and an Outdoor Pavilion for performance and community gathering are designed for an urban park in North Carolina. The form and structure reference the heritage of the local textile industry – its patterned fabric and the motion of the textile loom equipment. Purple heart wood, painted steel, copper sheet metal, brick, granite, and silicon bronze donor plaques are assembled with standard details in unique combinations to create a tailored pattern and image bound to its place.

Article source: Tyrant Kunihiko Matsuba

A glass of water with a single drop of ink:

Neither purely transparent water nor visibly colored water; colored water in the strict sense of the term, which nevertheless has no color that can be perceived by human vision; neither 0 nor 100; somewhere between 0.1 and 1, and infinitesimally close to zero—our design policy may be described as such.

This operation situated in the future eco-neighborhoods, Prairie-au-Duc, in Nantes, is unique in particular because of its height. Its main challenge is to (re) create the desire to live in tall buildings, in a remarkable setting in the heart of the town.

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Article source: Daigo Ishii + Future-scape Architects

A low-cost public cottage for locals and visitors, located within a beech woods park. This is the region with heaviest snowfall in Japan, often as deep as 4m.  It was an architecture in that two volumes were combined. One is the outward form Big Box. It was determined as the maximum volume possible from the budget with local details for withstanding heavy snow without maintenance in the winter, when the cottage becomes isolated. The big volume also enables comfortable stay in the summer.

Single-family house in Bohumilec, Czech Republic by Mimosa architects

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Article source: Mimosa architects

Single-family house for a family of four into the surrounding of the small village Bohumileč in Pardubice region. Volume solution of the house comes out of the form of the rustic house with a saddle roof. Volume and material simplicity join the house with its natural and urban framework. The building “seeks to be” an unobtrusive, but after all expressive “resident” of the place. The motto of rural simplicity and severity infiltrate into the house from the ground substance to the detail.
