“we made this” by ctrl+n arkitektur

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Article source: ctrl+n arkitektur

In order to engage the youth of today with art and cultural exhibits we first have to take ourselves back to those times and understand what it was that captured our imaginations or what in fact disengaged us with our cultural surroundings and opportunities. in order to attract teenagers to art, they themselves must feel part of the creative process. We are all guilty of, at times, only half acknowledging our surroundings. self involvement with our immediate context allows our minds to absorb and expand.

Social housing in Elmas, Italy by 2+1 officina architettura

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Article source: 2+1 officina architettura

2+1 officina architettura has recently completed a housing project in Elmas, a small town in the south of Sardinia, Italy. The office, which finds its field of action between artistic design and architecture, seeks for experimentation within contemporary design thinking, ‘aiming for the development of contemporary art and architecture and directing their own intellectual, professional and human resources for the improvement of society and ethics’. Amid a building context fully regulated to prevent and constrain rather than experiment with new architectural solutions, 2+1 has demonstrated how to make the best of it, turning those constrictions upside down.

The task which we had to solve with our design was to create a space with 300 seats (or 700 standing spectators) for experimental performances of the Bavarian State Opera. The Pavilion should be dismountable, transportable and re-mountable and make the respective urban space distinctive through its shape.

“Architecture is a mixture of NOSTALGIA and ANTICIPATION, the co-existence of history and vanguard”. (JEAN BAUDRILLARD)

The new Drawing and Illustration Centre of ABC appears with the will to become an artistic reference at an international level and also a symbol of the cultural offer in Madrid. Its installation in the building of the old factory in Calle Amaniel, must respond to an intervention that is appropriate for a historical building, without renouncing to express its contemporanean centre nature with a wide cultural and artistic offer linked to the most avant-garde institutions within our context.

One of the qualities of the residential and industrial area of St. Johann in Basel is the close coexistence of old and new buildings. This coexistance is kept and emphasized in the project.
