Article source: bauzeit architekten

On a site adjacent to the main street of Pieterlen 12 residential units were built. On the site, there existed an old watch factory, which was partly demolished. A simple body is built and added to the existing studio. The issue of integration for the residential and factory buildings was to be recorded and re-interpreted.

Matsu Flagship Store in Shanghai, China by EXH Design

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

Article source: EXH Design

The Matsu Flagship Store is located on the noisy Zhaojiabang Road. To isolate the store from its buzzing environment, we aimed to make it “a store under the trees”. The façade is made of aluminum panels with Gingko leaf patterns. As the sun is gently filtered through the perforated façade and the leaf shadows are cast upon the floor, one feels as if he is wandering amongst the gingko trees. The leaf shapes cut from the aluminum panels were then embedded in the interior concrete floor, allowing people to revel in the romance of fallen leaves.

Tallinn Music High School, Ballet School and Georg Otsa Music School in Estonia by Atelier Thomas Pucher

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

Article source: Atelier Thomas Pucher

The key concept was to create not only a building but also a new meaningful city space connecting the people, the place, its history and their music. The building delimits the boundaries of the plot, enclosing an expanse of green at its core: a garden that is urban yet isolated from the hubbub of the city.

Forstwerkhof Burgergemeinde Biel in Bern, Switzerland by bauzeit architekten

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

Article source: bauzeit architekten

The site of the forestry center extends on both sides of the ‘Reuchenette’ road. To facilitate it’s function, the program’s content focused on only one side. Following the topography of the land, two buildings form an elongated space ending with a court for the maneuvers. The single level building dominates the main street façade and differs, both in form and aspect, from the urban architecture. Its envelope is made of rough and untreated strips of wood. It generates a oriented vertically texture, that dialogues with the forest structure and filters the light and the external views.
