Figueroa Tower in Los Angeles, CA by Studio Daniel Libeskind

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Article source: Studio Daniel Libeskind

The 1340 Figueroa Street residential development is a multifaceted composition developed within the current fabric of downtown Los Angeles. The development strikes a balance between the tall buildings of downtown and the large scale civic complexes like the neighboring Convention Center and the Staples Center. The location of the site, at the southern end of the high rise downtown district, allows the tower to create a visible marker, contributing to a new skyline for the City of Los Angeles.  Studio Daniel Libeskind is working with CA Human Technologies on the project.

Article source: AllesWirdGut Architektur ZT GmbH

A redesigning of Maria-Theresien-Straße that does justice to the significance that the street has in the townscape of Innsbruck: the goal was to create an urban site with a rich atmosphere that invites strolling, hanging out, and meeting people. The identity of the site derives from the tension between urbanity and a panoramic view into nature, between past and future, between a specific character and a connective function in the urban structure of Innsbruck.

“City Futura” is a visionary urban design proposal for an expansion of the City of Milan set in the year 2210. An eclectic international group of architects including Mad Office from Beijing, R&sie(n) from Paris, Rojkind Arquitectos from Ciudad de México and B+U from Los Angeles among others were invited to each choose one of the available sites and envision an “arch-urban object”. SoHo Synagogue in New York by Dror Benshetrit

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Article source: Dror Benshetrit

The SoHo Synagogue is the community’s first ever synagogue and represents a fresh vision that translates the inspiration of Judaism to a new generation. With a forward thinking approach, Rabbi Dovi Scheiner along with his wife Esty, founders of SoHo Synagogue, built a religious platform that invites the community to fully integrate their religion within their modern lifestyle. Mindful of the open mindset of lower Manhattan’s Jewish population, The SoHo  Synagogue seeks to reinvent the synagogue as a comfortable and enjoyable setting for personal growth and communal connection. We were humbled and honored when receiving the invitation and assignment to create a space in which the synagogue can embrace the traditions and its fundamental function within a contemporary, casual design setting. On Sunday June 12, a long and festive procession of supporters and congregants dressed in white walked the neighborhood together to cut the ribbon and open the door to their new synagogue. The synagogue will hold both social gatherings and religious services.

Vallehermoso Sports Centre in Madrid, Spain by ABM arquitectos

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Article source: ABM arquitectos

The site is located in a central area of Madrid, in the district of Chamberí. In this same place, until just a few years ago was located the Vallehermoso Stadium complex. Built in the 50’s, this complex included the locally famous athletics stadium and a number of complementary sports facilities. The installation closed to the public in 2007 and was demolished in 2008. Since then, the Town Hall is planning the construction of a new Sports Center (that is starting to become a reality after the selection of this project as the design winner) and a new athletics stadium that will be developed later on. The construction of the new Vallehermoso Sports Centre will start in 2012. It will be a gentle building in its architectural expression; it will embrace the city and it will interact with it creating a meeting point and an activity focus.
