Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Article source: Constantine George Pappas AIA

This project consists of a new 375 seat sanctuary addition with associated  lower level community spaces. The total size of the new addition is 14,000 sq.ft.,  7000 sq.ft. each floor. The concept is based on the cross sectional articulation of a box,  and how to manipulate light into the interior of the worship space. The box, or church is divided into a series of tiers and clerestories. The first, representing the support area and  seating of the Church. The second tier represents the Chancel or religious activity area of the Church. The third tier, created above the pipe organ platform, allows northern light to spill onto the pipe organ and Chancel area. Each tier is structurally detailed to strengthen its space below.

First Floor Penthouse in Tel Aviv, Israel by Z-A Studio

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Article source: Z-A Studio

Apartment Renovation
First Floor Penthouse extends the ephemeral relations between inside and outside. The primary asset of the apartment; its view onto the vast city hall square, is funneled in, creating a horizontal courtyard. This funneled landscape separates public from private, turning the bedrooms into a remote entity, when viewed from the open public space. The concept of the artificial landscape was carried through to shape the wall elevations and plans.

Through proposing three types of innovatively reconstructed modular shipping containers, the overall construct leads to open courtyards, interlocking units, and playfully generated programs that introduce a new innovative topological design that regenerates and reconnects the community.

Project Update – November 2, 2011 – Nominated for Outanding Creative Achievement in Studio Design by the TEC (Technical Excellence & Creativity) Foundation.

The epitome of hip elegance and acoustical excellence, Jungle City Studios signify the dawn of the ‘Retro Future/Future Retro’ era. The $6 million + complex also recalibrates the benchmark for destination studio design.  Crowning a new luxury office building at 520 West 27th St. in NYC’s chill High Line district, Jungle City morphed 4800 sq. feet of raw real estate into a showplace duplex with soaring ceilings, a 370 sq. ft. terrace, a 2400 sq. ft. rooftop deck, and river views.
