Sannazzaro in Brescia, Italy by Studio Daniel Libeskind

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Article source: SDL

The Sannazzaro masterplan creates a unique opportunity to rethink the city model of Brescia, which like many Italian cities, contains a fractured periphery.  This periphery is in constant change and as such fails to reach a quality comparable to that of the historical city center. Sannazzaro endeavors to develop a new node for Brescia, a counterweight to the historical center, and incorporate 21st century ideas of sustainability, public space, architecture and program.  Studio Daniel Libeskind designed the master plan, as well as the central municipality buildings and eastern residential block.  SDL worked with DOP Dante Benini and Partners on this project.

Rose in Miami Beach, Florida by bluarch

Article source: bluarch

Rosé Restaurant offers an upbeat dining experience on the South Beach strip in Miami, Florida.

Rosé was designed using a conceptual framework that acknowledges and indulges in both the glamour and the vibrancy of the 1960’s by paying homage to the lifestyle of the celebrities of the time… As icons Bianca and Mick Jagger, exemplified the glamour of the time, and were observed for their cutting edge style and flavor, designer Emilio Pucci, was at the cutting edge of fashion. Known for his geometric prints in a kaleidoscope of colors, he seemed an appropriate symbol from which to draw the interior architecture of the space.

Houseal Lavigne Associates in Chicago, Illinois by inFORM Studio

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Article source: inFORM Studio

The renovation of an eleventh floor suite in the 1926 Art Deco Metropolitan Building, located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, provided a unique opportunity for a young and progressive planning firm to increase their profile within the city of Chicago. The original space, layered with aging ceiling tile and threadbare carpet, quickly developed into an extensive dematerialization exercise. A nervous and wary building landlord observed progress as the current building standards were set aside and the existing finishes were stripped away revealing the clarity and beauty of the original architecture.

Dinos Metal Recycling Facility in Ljubljana, Slovenia by Studio Kalamar

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Article source: Studio Kalamar

On its site in the outskirts of Ljubljana, Dinos company has established a recycling program which includes shredding and sorting of scrap metal. The shredder’s noise emissions called for an acoustic protective cover that was envisioned as a light steel construction overlaid with acoustic panels. Visually, the volume’s impact is minimized with a matte gray sheath enveloping three facades, while the main elevation is composed of horizontal elements, paraphrasing stacks of crushed cars in varying colors.
