Vernooy House in Haarzuilens, The Netherlands by Van Rooijen Architecten

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Article source: Van Rooijen Architecten

A deteriorated farmhouse in the vicinity of the castle De Haar was demolished and replaced by a new one. The context of the rural surroundings and the dominant roof shape of the old farmhouse were the ingredients for the design concept of the new farmhouse. The new house has its own strong characteristics and refers to the ‘old’ only at an abstract level and can be appreciated as a ‘sculpture in the landscape’.

Bridging the Gap by Studio BÄNG Designed using Rhino and Grasshopper

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Article source: Studio BÄNG

Thinking about a modular, quickly deploy- able and adaptable bridge design a quite complex shape based on parametric design strategies and digital fabrication methods was developed. We started to parametrize points in X, Y and Z direction at relevant areas of a bridge in Rhino Grasshopper. Four points at the beginning and the end of the bridge and four in the middle. These 12 parametrized points give the opportunity to steer the crosssection of the bridge at three important areas. Based on these points the defi nition creates three frames one for each end of the bridge and one in the middle.

Many families in Michigan share a tradition of spending weekends and vacations in cottages adjacent to the state’s collection of lakes. Higgins Lake is considered one of the most spectacular of the inland lakes and the empty-nester’s who commissioned this cottage wanted to be able to share this resource with their large family and many friends. In order to do so, they requested a large gathering area for cooking, eating and relaxing and space to sleep twenty adults.

Distribution building for medicines and medical equipment in Zagreb, Republic of Croatia by UPi-2M Architect

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Article source: UPi-2M

Parcel is situated on the outskirts of the town (SE part), morphologically a quite specific heterogeneous environment. A morphology of single volume building is presented by transformation of forms which unite the logic of existing elements of greenhouse/train/hangar and architectural interpretation of the facilities. Western facade represents the view of the building’s section itself on that very position. Northern and southern facades are perforated by a random pattern of openings, giving two-way lighting to the interior. Night brings the inverse effect, as the luminous projections on the cylinder create a dotted morphology for the mono-volume building.Roof cover is kal-zip steel sheet.bearing structure is made out of equal prefabricated reinforced concrete arched elements that are shortened at their bottom. Internal office area has bearing composite structure (steel + reinforced concrete).
