The Marof (Maierhof) agricultural estate in eastern Slovenia has existed for 120 years. Its composition of a country manor house and outbuildings lies on the ridge west of Mačkovci village in Prekmurje. Complete revitalization of the complex reinstates the manor house to its original condition; the outbuildings are replaced with new structures, adapted to new functions and technologies, all under supervision of Institute for Protection of Cultural Heritage.

ELEGANT MOTION IN A BUILDING FORM – THE BUSAN METROPOLITAN CITY OPERA HOUSE PROPOSED DESIGN BY solus4

Solus4 of Kittery Maine and Jamestown Rhode Island proposed a design solution for the Busan Opera House that flows with the elements of culture and history of Korea.

Alfonso Lopez, lead designer for Solus4 describes the origins of their design: “A very special characteristic of Korean heritage is the linked uniformity of the art, history, culture and language. Much of this is based on the beauty and the pleasure that each element of culture gives to the individual and the community”.

Busan Opera House in South Korea by BaO & KJYAO & Pd’AA

Entry for the Busan Opera House competition 08-2011

Joined project: BaO + KJYAO + Pd’AA

BaO (Beijing), KJYAO (Beijing) and Pd’AA (London) collaborated on an exciting entry for the Busan Opera House competition in South Korea. The site of the competition is located on a reclaimed island in the middle of existing docks that, in the near future, will become a new cultural zone for Busan Metropolitan City. We propose an OPERA ON THE MOVE as a creative response to the evolving nature of opera in the 21st century, setting new standards of presentation and production in the performing arts. Our projects advocates both a programmatic dynamism (Opera = open cultural center for everyone) and a much more literal kind of move. We envisage that an element of Busan Opera House could detach itself from the main body of the building and sail across oceans to dock at venues around the world. If opera and theatre companies keep touring the planet to give performances, why couldn’t the building itself do so?

The construction of the Centre for Earth Architecture accomplishes the activities of the AKTC in Mopti after the restoration of the mosque and the construction of a new sewerage system. The construction site has been gained by a backfill at the waterside of an interior lake and so the lakeside has been made accessible for public use. The program itself responds both to the needs of the district management Komoguel as to the visitors of the cultural facilities of the district.

Dimičeva Office Building in Ljubljana, Slovenia by Studio Kalamar Designed using AutoCAD

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Article source: Studio Kalamar

The building’s floor plan and basic volume are determined by its location – it completes an urban composition set up in the 1980s with the adjoining office building. The floors above ground comprise office space with maximum adaptability of office units combination. Free from internal construction elements, floor divisions can be arranged according to user’s needs. Basement floors comprise a parking garage as well as technical and storage areas. Facade sheath reflects the office module repetition, the monofunctional program thus results in a compact volume with surface partitions of construction verticals and window openings on the same plane.

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Article source: Nadau Lavergne Architects

The Chateau Barde-Haut is a 17 hectare domain located in Saint-Emilion, France. Registered in 1999 on the UNESCO world heritage, the jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion is a remarkable example of a historic wine landscape which survived intact. In 2005, we had rehabilitated of former winery  in a building made of traditional stone. Sought again in 2008 for a project of  a bigger scale. The existing site is characteristic of the from the Gironde wine landscape: an island of stone low houses of the 19th century, contain offices and the other dependences, appear from rows of vineyards. In the North of this island gets loose a rangy volume: the wine storehouse.
