Article source: James Law Cybertecture

Stemming from the enriching life cycle of the organic plant, an inspiring design is proposed for a Taiwan Tower competition.

This natural concept embodies the very essence of the ecosystem within we coexist with, by mimicking the stable and collaborative harmony between trees roots and trunk system anchor and support the entire core of the building. Integrated with intelligent systems, this concept attracts the natural energy of nature and reinvents Cybertecture technology to produce a tower that is remarkable and extraordinary for people to work, visit and take pride in.

Silverland Middle School in Fernley, Nevada by Tate Snyder Kimsey

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Article source: Tate Snyder Kimsey

Situated in the Fernley Valley, Silverland Middle School presents a contemporary reflection of both the built and natural context of northern Lyon County Nevada. The school’s setting is a pastoral island in the vast, intemperate landscape of the Great Basin. Developed through a series of locally driven design charrettes, this facility was designed as part of a new educational campus for the Lyon County School District; serving as a new landmark in an otherwise expansive context, while providing a sense of permanence and identity for this booming historic community.

KAP 686 – The long road to a new square in Cologne, Germany by Metrobox Architekten

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Article source: Metrobox Architekten

Case history

Cologne Cathedral was completed 130 years ago and for 25 of those years skaters have firmly taken possession of Roncalliplatz in front of the southern facade. During this time, a separate culture was formed and for many, the square became an area that they identified with.  However, in recent years the scene has been increasingly viewed as a problem.  Established interest groups exerted pressure, and some were of the opinion that skating should simply be banned.  The city was full of good intentions and wanted to resolve the conflict in cooperation with the skaters. However, there was no point of contact among the skaters.

Can the experience of art be enhanced through architecture?

White walls + Isolated Rooms = Good museum? Our design of the Serlauchius Museum extension seeks to deviate from that mantra by developing an architecture that directly facilitates human interaction with art. It is our firm belief that the experience of art can be enhanced through innovative architecture and new spatial experiences. The design of the Maison Promino seeks to achieve two main goals: to create an inspiring piece of architecture that will enhance the image of Serlachius Art Musuem globally and to provide a truly unique museum experience by connecting visitors with the art like never before.

Located in Suburb area, House in Yotsukaido stands on the corner plot site facing a retention basin. Generally speaking, a ground floor is bigger than or at least equal size to a upper floor, here inversed condition occurs, a bigger upper floor on top of a ground floor. Le corbusier `s Villa Savoye would be a good example of this composition. What differs from it is that load bearing system, not columns but semi opaque walls.
