Thursday, September 29th, 2011

Article source: CR2 Arquitetos + FGMF Architects

Encrusted in a row of narrow geminate houses, the story began more as a challenge rather than as an architectural project. How make the entire program of a house fit in that 4x30m lot, relying on a few illuminated surfaces?

Article source: Van Rooijen Architecten

In an inner courtyard close to the city center of Utrecht a playground is situated for the children of the neighborhood. The old existing building on the playground was to be replaced by a new one. The brief called for a modest, durable and safe new building that would upgrade the playground and appeal to children. The building has separate spaces for a kindergarten. By means of a movable partition the spaces can be interlinked to provide space for different activities and multiple uses.

Ise O in Mie, Japan by Chikara Ohno / sinato

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

Article source: Chikara Ohno / sinato

A new house built on the misshapen site for a family of four.  The site faces the urban scale such as parking area and public pool.  So it was better to keep enough distance from them, but the house open to the outside was required.  We placed 3 rectangles along the site, 3 quadrangles between the rectangles and 1 triangle at the center on a plan.  3 rectangles are the mass for the rooms such as living room, kitchen, bedroom, etc.  3 quadrangles are the courtyards.

Vernooy House in Haarzuilens, The Netherlands by Van Rooijen Architecten

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Article source: Van Rooijen Architecten

A deteriorated farmhouse in the vicinity of the castle De Haar was demolished and replaced by a new one. The context of the rural surroundings and the dominant roof shape of the old farmhouse were the ingredients for the design concept of the new farmhouse. The new house has its own strong characteristics and refers to the ‘old’ only at an abstract level and can be appreciated as a ‘sculpture in the landscape’.

Bridging the Gap by Studio BÄNG Designed using Rhino and Grasshopper

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Article source: Studio BÄNG

Thinking about a modular, quickly deploy- able and adaptable bridge design a quite complex shape based on parametric design strategies and digital fabrication methods was developed. We started to parametrize points in X, Y and Z direction at relevant areas of a bridge in Rhino Grasshopper. Four points at the beginning and the end of the bridge and four in the middle. These 12 parametrized points give the opportunity to steer the crosssection of the bridge at three important areas. Based on these points the defi nition creates three frames one for each end of the bridge and one in the middle.
