As part of North Carolina State University’s Department of Horticultural Science, the Arboretum is primarily a working research and teaching garden that focuses on the evaluation, selection and display of plant material gathered from around the world. Plants especially adapted to conditions in the Piedmont region of North Carolina are identified in an effort to find better plants for southern landscapes.

Article source: AREP

Located to the east of Doha, Qatar, the site of the 2006 Asian Games covers 130 hectares and includes the Khalifa stadium, a sports academy and hall, the women’s sports hall, the women’s club and an aqua centre, a fitness centre, an orthopaedic  hospital, and a mosque. Of all these buildings, the Sports City Tower stands as the emblem of the entire Olympic centre.  Rising to a height of 300 metres, the tower is the highest building in the city and can be seen for many miles around. The design of the tower, with its elegant parabolic lines, looks like a torch. At its summit, visible from all over the city, the Olympic flame will burn throughout the games.

Siemens’ new headquarters is an urban, recognisable composition of plazas, courtyards and alleys that will unfold a new, vibrant urban space in central Munich. Siemens and Munich are integrated into a harmonious whole by merging two archetypal entities – mass (Siemens) and void (Munich) – into a complementing formation. The city opens up the mass, which in response opens up to the city.

This project was inspired by Brazil´s indian architecture, perfectely suited for the hot and humid climate where it stands, Angra dos  Reis,  one hour drive south of  Rio de Janeiro .The roof acts as a big leaf  that protects from the hot sun all the enclosed spaces of the house as the in-between open spaces, truly the most important ones . These in-between open spaces represent the essence of the design.

Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine is the birthplace of America’s national anthem and one of the nation’s most significant historic landmarks. The Fort, the National Anthem and the flag, together and individually, help us to understand how the United States was created, defended, and preserved. It was with this context and these rich national symbols in mind that the design team, led by GWWO Architects, conceived the expression for the new visitor center.

Financial Tower in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam by AREP

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Article source: AREP

Located in downtown Ho Chi Minh city, near the Saigon River, the programme includes a 68-storey office building with a shopping mall in its base. The outline of the tower, which is surrounded by a water feature, is reminiscent of a lotus flower. The platform of helicopters in door with forgery of 25 m reminds a petal of flower. The shape consists of a complex geometry, oblique cylinders taken back in facade with glass modules in curve and segmented. Its plastic aspect is strengthened at night by a white lighting which emphasizes the vertical leaf, the soffite of the platform and the pinnacle of the tower.
