Article source: HOLODECK architects

Our housing complex design considers the existing large building and the surrounding single family housing structure by preserving the scale and the views of the landscape. The buildings are oriented east-west and each apartment is designed with terraces or loggias. The concept follows the idea of landscape-folding.

Article source: Eriksen Skajaa Architects + Pushak Architects + Bjørbekk & Lindheim Landscape Architects

1st prize in a competition for new gateways to the Sjunkhatten National Park. Nordland, Norway.

”Saivu” is a sami word for a portal to another world. Based on the magic realism of the sami people and their understanding of nature, the construction system of their ”lavvo”, and an interpretation of old sami signs, we made the proposals for three gateways to the Sjunkhatten National Park. The park has a focus on children and the jury found the proposal’s focus on the mythical fit suitable to enrichen children’s experience of nature.  It is a dramatic and beautiful  landscape close to Bodø in northern norway between fjords and snow covered mountain peaks.

Neubau Depot und Verwaltung RUHR MUSEUM in Essen

Depot and Administration RUHR MUSEUM on the world heritage Zollverein, Essen

An extreme restraint for all structural addition within the context of the world heritage – the colliery of Zollverein with all architectural qualities and inestimable historic values – is indicated. The course of the design for the new depot of the Ruhr Museum was based on serenity and mastery. Clear geometry and decreased material selection were ways and methods for the design. On the one hand, the building is positioned into the correct context, on the other hand it abstracts and sublimates this context.

São Bento Residence in Belo Horizonte, Brazil by Anastasia Arquitetos

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Article source: Anastasia Arquitetos

The residence is situated in a 15 x 56 sloping urban site (it is not a condominium). The land has a direction east / west, with the best view to the east, and the entrance to the west. The idea was to get the most possible exposure of the intimate area, on the second floor, to the morning sun, and also to the best sight. The solution was to extend the floor diagonally on the lower floor, creating a terrace for the intimate area, so that all bedrooms face east, which would not be possible if all were side by side.
