Frankfurt’s Festival Hall once again played host to Mercedes-Benz at the IAA International Motor Show (September 13 – 25, 2011) where the “pulse” of a new generation of automobiles was on display. The exhibition design by architectural firm Kauffmann Theilig & Partner and Frankfurt-based Atelier Markgraph was a continuation of this years running-theme: 125 years since the invention of the automobile. This is the 9th consecutive collaboration between the two.
The site “ a relatively steep hill “ offers a stunning view over Graz. This panorama also provided the main guiding principle for the design. One additional goal was to provide direct access to the garden. Due to the very steep slope, this goal actually worked contrary to the aim of maximizing the panoramic view.
The interventions are part of the Master Plan developed by the scientific team that leads the Archaeological Site and focus on two specific elements, the covering of the mosaic of the “craterae” and the consolidation of the basement of the Temple of Jupiter.

A restaurant/bar/open-air café positioned on Île Seguin in the middle of a temporary garden whilst waiting for the architect Jean Nouvel’s macro project to be implemented, Les Grandes Tables de L’ile is a place to meet, for haute cuisine and why not even parties to accompany the reconstruction of this island steeped in history. The project is an architectural hybridization between an agricultural greenhouse, a barge and a timber-frame house. Modelled after a large wood fibre box suspended in a scaffold structure from which freight containers are hanging, all encompassed beneath a transparent umbrella… An eye-catching iconoclastic assemblage with an area of 300m2 to accommodate120 covers and the cuisine of Arnaud Daguin, a chef with stars to his name.
The new Woodland Park Zoo West Entrance replaces the old north and west entrances providing amenities and services in an arrangement that allows large numbers of guests to enter the zoo quickly, while maintaining a scale intimate enough to be enjoyed by small groups or individuals. The zoo entrance is meant to be experienced as a node along a larger path around Woodland Park. With a variety of opportunities for seating or gathering, the plaza is a civic space enjoyed by zoo patrons and the public at large.

CHYBIK+KRISTOF ASSOCIATED ARCHITECTS designed recreational family housing near Bratislava. These houses also offer a possibility of permanent settlement. The project aims to create a residential area of high quality with direct contact with water surface. Furthermore, a considerable number of houses are located in the area of an ancient riparian forest in the riverbed of the Danube. The project’s main motto is to set up a space for a life in contact with nature, a life with a link to the original fauna and flora.
ROEWUarchitecture have recently completed a vacation home for an extended family in eastern Taiwan. Located in a dense urban area and confined on two sides by blank party-walls the house must gain all its light and air from the street while maintaining privacy within. It was also essential to maintain security while windows are left open for natural ventilation. The narrow and elongated plot was addressed by placing a series of solid volumes along the length of the site, allowing void spaces in between to create continuity for light and air. A bamboo screen wraps around the house creating a buffer between the street and private life within.
In spite of its location by the sea Gothenburg has very few residences with sites by the water. This unique site therefore called for special care and treatment, and for various reasons Wingårdh has designed buildings on it on three different occasions and for three different clients. The house that has now been built is for a family consisting of two adults, two teenage daughters and a small son.
