Pragal Civic Center and Almada business hotel in Portugal by NLA

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

Article source: NLA

The approach to the problem of merging the urban fabric that fits the “pragal civic center” should have the evolution of the “square” throughout history as a basic idea.

The creation of a homogenous block, with a permeable interior, creating zones of pathways, zones of permanence and areas for contemplation, in which interaction with the palace of Justice and the tensions created thereby contributing to the integration, were the starting points for the design.

Multi-Level Parking voestalpine in Linz, Austria by x architekten & Werny + Wischenbart + Partner

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Article source: x architekten

Task/concept:

Due to the location in the city of Linz and restrictions on the premise boundaries, the voestalpine steel company needs to pursue alternative growth strategies. An important method of achieving this is through the strategic concentration of facilities and processes on the premises. For this reason the idea developed to concentrate the existing scattered parking spaces, which use up a lot of space, to a centrally located car park. Strategically positioning the car park has proved to be a prototypical solution when considering transformational processes of industrial premises that have limited possibilities for geographic extension.

House in Sant Julia by Josep Ferrando Bramona

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Article source: Josep Ferrando Bramona

The building is an abstract, concrete box that appears to float over the flat plot.

On the ground level this 12x14m box contains the more intimate and nocturnal areas to the north and the more social, daylight activity area is south-facing. In this area, where we find the dining and sitting rooms as well as the kitchen the box is perforated with a large 12m void opening the views to the garden and the distant church.

Embedded house in Villach, Austria by HOLODECK architects

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Article source: HOLODECK architects

The concept parameters for the design of this house are the existing structures in the surroundings are, the topography, the far-reaching views of the landscape, building restrictions and the future growth of the family. Situated along the slope it shares a dialoge with the scenery. Outside terraces in each level are possible through the embedding of the building into the slope. The astonishing views from each room in the house over the valley and into the mountains allow the user a rural living in a modern transformation of traditional elements of this area. The side of the house facing the hill is closed, while the front opens out to the countryside, allowing natural light to flood the space.

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Article source: upsetters architects

This is a design of the store, which requires a visit by appointment, on an alley in Harajuku, Tokyo.

This space is intended to function as a sales agency and an authorised store of imported watches and a store selling related accessories.  As it serves both as an agency and a store and sells expensive articles, we designed this as a space requiring an appointment to visit in which customers can personally shop and talk about business with its clerk.

Thicket Installation in Manchester, Tennessee by Sanders Pace Architecture (designed using Rhino)

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Article source: Sanders Pace Architecture

Objective

This project was submitted to an open call for proposals for Pod Art installations at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.  Our proposal sought to create a reprieve from the visual stimulation present at the annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.  The installation provided a spatially interactive experience – one which can be simultaneously viewed and occupied.  A 30′ x 30′ gridded field of 1 1/2″ diameter bamboo poles defined the installation while selectively removed zones created privacy and enclosure within an otherwise vast, undefined 600+ acre event.  The tight placement of poles also provided dappled shade projecting into internal spaces located within the gridded field.  Ultimately, This dense bamboo grid created an inhabitable thicket to be experienced and explored by the festivalgoer.
