The buildings of the cultural and community premises of Paris Diderot University fit into the undeveloped, southwest area of the Flour Market which was recently converted by Nicolas Michelin and Associates Agency. A break between the Flour Market and the new building is preserved. It respects the existing building and accentuates the slenderness of the tower.
The Dallas Theater Center (DTC) is known for its innovative work, the result of its leadership’s constant experimentation and the provisional nature of its long-time home. DTC was housed in the Arts District Theater, a dilapidated metal shed that freed its resident companies from the limitations imposed by a fixed-stage configuration and the need to avoid harming expensive interior finishes. The directors who worked there constantly challenged the traditional conventions of theater and often reconfigured the form of the stage to fit their artistic visions. As a result, the Arts District Theater was renowned as the most flexible theater in America. The costs of constantly reconfiguring its stage, however, became a financial burden and eventually DTC permanently fixed its stage into a “thrust-cenium.”
Villa Veth is a modern, customized villa, a private residence for a family of four. It is situated on a large parcel of land by a forest near the idyllic town of Hattem in the eastern part of the Netherlands.
The driveway on the entrance side leads to a carport situated below the house. This places the cars out of sight and gives the impression of the house partially hovering. It is a simple architectural approach with a great visual effect. The house looks sleek and abstract on the outside, but has a warm and cozy interior.

This historic building functioned as a military school in the past was built in 1897. the original house was almost 100m long then an event hall was attached to it in 1926. In the following decades a new wing for further functions was joined. in this more recent alteration, the vision of practice Vikár & Lukács Architects Studio was to demolish the attached parts and rethink the building while retaining its original form. According to these plans it was completed with a glass facade parallel with the old building, making the new floor plan to meet the requirements of modern times.
Sonnenhof consists of four new buildings with office and residential spaces. Located on a consolidated number of smaller lots in the historical center of Jena, Germany, the separate structures allow for free access through the grounds. Their placement on the outer edges of the plot defines a small-scale outdoor space congruent with the medieval city structure. Its outdoor facilities continue the building’s overall design concept past the edges of the lot. The planned incorporation of commerce, residence and office enables a small-sectioned and flexible pattern of use that also integrates itself conceptually into the surroundings.
The American Institute of Architect’s Board of Directors awarded the AIA Gold Medal to Fumihiko Maki, Hon. FAIA, the Tokyo-based architect whose international body of work has served as an extended meditation on the relationship of the part to the whole in architecture and in cities. The AIA Gold Medal is the highest honor the AIA confers on an architect. It acknowledges an individual whose significant body of work has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture. Maki will be honored at the 2011 AIA National Convention in New Orleans.

AIA President George H. Miller, FAIA, notified Maki by telephone after the Board made its decision. “The United States is my second country,” Maki said. “I am very very honored by this distinguished award.”
The city of Tourcoing is now the heart of a major restructuring, initiated several years ago. All public spaces, roads, squares are completely redesigned and includes a large shopping mall cinemas will soon be inaugurated. In this context, metro, tram and bus station combine to offer a real multi-modality.
Vikár & Lukács architects studio won the commission for this project on a competition for a new iconic headquarter of the hungarian autoklub. The main gesture of the building is a ribbon that wraps around the office spaces on seven floors, while articulating a letter ‘a’. As the site is located near the danube bridge, local politicians appreciated to have a building that works as a point of orientation for drivers that arrive to district ujpest.

Yongsan Dream Hub corporation presented today the MVRDV designed residential development of the Yongsan Business district: two connected luxury residential high-rises. A 260 meter tall tower and a 300 meter tall tower are connected in the centre by a pixelated cloud of additional program offering amenities and outside spaces with wide views. The towers with a total surface of 128,000m2 are expected to be completed in 2015.
The exposed spectacular site has vast views of Injidup Beach. The Busselton council imposed stringent building bulk and height guidelines; no portion of the building was to be higher then 4 metres above natural ground level. This therefore resulted in a low laconic single level residence. The client required holiday accommodation for their extended family and as such the sleeping requirements necessitated several bedrooms in separate zones to isolate young children from noisier areas. The site is extremely exposed with the prevailing South Westerly breeze and hot afternoon sun setting into the main view.
