More projects by Zaha Hadid

A new promenade linking key areas of Hamburg – incorporating ‘purposeful erosion’ to create a meandering river promenade with open vistas – compressed and expanded at key moments, punctuated by cut-out access cones, amphitheatres and three contrived ‘rock formations’ on which restaurants, cafes and kiosks are placed.

XinAo Concrete Research Plant in Beijing, China by Synarchitects

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Article source: Synarchitects

Challenged with a highly innovative plant, combining scientific research and modern production of concrete on an international standard, we have been asking ourselves to not only provide all tasks, but to add something special that makes this project shine out the typical factories.

The company XinAo is multitalented enterprise providing all kind of goods and services. A lot of their goals are satisfying families and supporting them in the daily tasks we all encounter. We took this as a perfect link to the subject concrete, providing us with the necessarities of our infrastructure. This ranges from bridges to houses to simple furniture. We took this liason of common goals to give the whole project a simple and for everyone coherent face, a ordinary house.

Competition Entry for Bispevika Development in Norway by PUSHAK

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Article source: PUSHAK

Rich nature meets rich urbanity of Oslo’s new social hub.

When this new harbour area is fully developed the opening to the fjord will appear relatively narrow. PUSHAK proposes a new road north-south that turns and opens to the fjord. Three courts open towards – and frame – the view to the islands. The three water basins serve as a physical separation between the busy public spaces outside the courts, and the courtyard which only belongs to the residences. At the same time a tension is maintained between public and private: a glimpse into the lush dwelling yard, a look out on the city’s pulse. A number of pavilions add to the filtering between public and private, as well as creating a sunny wall to sit against for enjoying a cold drink on summer days.

Liyuan library in beijing, china by Li xiaodong/ Atelier

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Article source: Li xiaodong/ Atelier

This project is modest addition to the small village of Huairou on the outskirts of Beijing, just under a two hours drive from busy Beijing urban life.

On the one hand it forms a modern programmatic complement to the village by adding a small library and reading space within a setting of quiet contemplation. On the other hand we wanted to use architecture to enhance the appreciation of the natural landscaping qualities.

Pilgrim Refuges in Jalisco, Mexico by Luis Aldrete Arquitectos

Ruta del Peregrino Refugies

The strategy consists of a series of base modules which can be multiplied in order to give form to the project, and which make the project capable of adaptation and growth. The atmosphere makes sense when two kind of pieces made of ‘adobe clay’ color -which is one of the predominant colors of the region- configure space. One of them is an essential piece to perform a lattice perimeter at the buildings that reflect the play of light and shadows created by the roofs of oak leaves used in most of the rest of the surroundings, which contain a great deal of sensitivity and space quality.

Brooklyn Night Bazaar 2011 in Williamsburg, NY by JDS Architects

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

Article source: JDS Architects

Brooklyn Night Bazaar, a recurring nighttime market readies for the holidays with an extravagant showcase for independent artists, crafters, chefs, designers, and musicians in a 40,000 sq foot warehouse with 30-foot ceilings on the waterfront. Founder and Brooklynite Aaron Broudo was inspired by the Southeast Asian night markets — where a manic energy infuses with music as locals and tourists sample dishes and bargain for objects. Brooklyn’s version is a mega-pop-up platform that commingles indie music, handmade zines, homegrown jams, projected art videos and giant helium balloons.

Fukoku Tower in Osaka, Japan by Dominique Perrault Architecture

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

Article source: DPA

This tower project for the Fukoku insurance company takes inspiration from the profile of a gigantic tree whose roots proliferate on the surface of the ground. Splayed at its base, the tower’s outline tapers elegantly as it rises, gracing the city’s skyline with a vertical asymptote. The contrast between the structure’s base and upper regions is accentuated by the treatment of the building’s “bark”. Broad “wood chips” on the lower levels gradually give way to a sleek wall.

Urban development block with a high rise for office, hotel, wellness and commercial use

In a three-level peer review process that resulted in two first-prize winners, an urban planning concept was developed for the area of what was once the post office on Erkrather Strasse. The so-called “Quartier M” is to serve as the future link between the Hauptbahnhof central station and Tanzhaus NRW/Capitol, becoming a lively city quarter for living and working. In addition to offices and a hotel, the trend-setting urban design also provides for both privately financed and government subsidized public housing.

Other plans include space for a day care center for children and service providers for the quarter.
