Colorfoto Megastore in Lisbon, Portugal by João Tiago Aguiar

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Article source: João Tiago Aguiar

‘Colorfoto’ grew and needed a Megastore.

We tried to organize the space in a large and clean way, attempting to highlight the ampleness of the store despite the various happenings. The pavement and the ceiling, in white, contrast with the set of cabinets that cover the walls, designed in a way to serve as storage and display.

Esperanza Dos in Manabí, Ecuador by Al Borde

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Article source: Al Borde

Here in Cabuyal people live without electricity, without sewage or running water. People do not use money; they have no jobs or professions. People do not measure time with clocks; do not use meters or rulers. Here there is no private property, nor institutions. Over here life is simple: if they are tired, they sleep, if they are bored, they play. They have ignored boundaries, morals and shoes. They do not need gods, laws, or degrees. They satisfy their needs almost obviously: the sea and the land are the supermarket and forest trees are the material to build their houses.

The typological restructuring longed and requested by the inhabitants of this building is the motto for all your plastic and functional mutation, which, without losing sight of the economics, defines the way the architects approached the whole transformation.

Beirut House of Arts and Culture in Lebanon by François Blanciak Architect

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Article source: François Blanciak Architect

As a way to organize this cultural venue in a coherent way regarding program, light, and public space, the project re-uses the symbolic morphology of the archetypal pitch-roof house. The upper part of the building is composed of three main volumes that respectively contain artistic, cultural, and house-related spaces, and which are linked by a large triangular void. Structurally, two continuous circulation cores support the edifice and connect all the various disciplines from bottom to top.

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Article source: Studio Daniel Libeskind

Studio Weil is a painting and sculpture studio designed and built for the American painter and sculptor Barbara Weil in Port d’Andratx in Mallorca Spain.  Daniel Libeskind worked closely with Ms. Weil to create a building which not only responds to the surrounding landscape, but also forms a space which complements and contrasts the artist’s work. The gallery, workshop and storage spaces is a unique fusion of the architectural with art: a fusion where the architecture in its form, materiality and geometry illuminates, complements and gives voice to the art of Barbara Weil. The Studio was completed in 2003 in collaboration with Goccisa.

102 Dwellings in Carabanchel, Spain by Dosmasuno Arquitectos

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Article source: Dosmasuno Arquitectos

Despite the guidelines drawn on the plots, places need to express their own personality, to arise naturally, to construct themselves. And concretely this one is aligned against a green area, against the concatenation of public spaces that link the old Carabanchel district with its forest through the new neighbourhood. In response to these conditions, the dwellings are compressed onto one edge, onto a single linear piece, in search for the genus loci of the place, views and an optimal orientation in which east and west share the south, generating the limit of the activity, soothing the interior and defining the exterior

Salerno Maritime Terminal in Salerno, Italy by Zaha Hadid Architects

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Article source: Zaha Hadid Architects

Our new terminal echoes the oyster – its hard shell enclosing soft, fluid elements within. Key focal points- ticket desks, restaurant, waiting room – steer passengers from ground level to upper deck boarding points. By night the terminal’s ‘glow’ functions almost as a lighthouse for this ancient port city.

Our new terminal for the ferry port at Salerno, marks the transition from land to sea, from solid to liquid, both visually and functionally – strengthening the intimate relationship between city and waterfront through innovate design.
