As part of a limited competition for the City of Sydney, HASSELL undertook the challenge to rejuvenate Perry Park in the inner-Sydney suburb of Alexandria.
Taking the themes of sport and ecology, the HASSELL response provides for a range of passive and active recreational activities within a park and wetland setting. Our goal was to create a destination for both individuals and groups; a place where sport and ecology mix seamlessly, support and complement one another in a balanced environment.
In the remote South of Oman there is a fishing village Shuwaimia on a 30KM virgin beach. Our client is a regional developer interested in developing 1 million square meters of precious land where the mountains meet the Indian Ocean. Various master plans submitted resulted in high density over development and the remoteness of the location made it not feasible financially. We proposed a different approach.
KABC’s vision for the development of the innovative office and research center in the Hai Chuang Yuan Community reflects the goals of the new high technology research campus, which promotes a new paradigm for research and development campuses in the region. Sustainability is at the core of the architectural expression, encompassing environmental, social, economic and cultural sustainability by fostering community and promoting new techniques and technologies.

This project took second place in the Tower House Competition for Treviso, Italy, which challenged architects to refurbish a twenty story landmark in the area. The proposal transforms the existing tower into 3 attached structures, each of which is designed with its own energy strategy. Photovoltaic panels on the roof and south façade provide 60 + 15 kw of power, which combined with bioclimatic devices brings the CO2 emissions down to zero.
Origami is a Japanese traditional craft of paper folding.
The pillars are made of folded steel plates like Origami.
“Circle” consist of units of pillars sorted continuously enable this structure to bear vertical load and make multi-storied large space and resists earthquakes plastically. Also “Core wall” which surrounds the Central Void improves earthquake-resistance.
Sited near a quiet countryside site in Beijing, the Artist Village Gallery consists of a private museum and two private houses. The inspiration of the architecture originates from a Chinese watercolor painting, aiming to develop an environment that blurs architectural boundaries with natural surroundings, resulting in a series of fluid spaces that provide the visitor a unique experience. This project attempts to express an architecture that captures the beauty of Chinese ink paintings.
Dongqian Lake, a water reservoir supplying the residents of Ningbo, requires regular dredging which results in a large quantity of by-product. The local authorities recognised an opportunity to use this by-product for the creation of a man-made island within the lake.
THE DESIGN BRIEF GIVEN BY THE CLIENT STATED A REQUIREMENT OF 2 BEDROOM & 1 BEDROOM APARTMENTS. THE PREVALENT RULES ON THE SITE ARE RESTRICTIVE IN TERMS OF THE OVERALL BUILDING ENVELOPE. AN OVERALL AREA OF 6098 SQM. IS TO BE BUILT ON SITE OF ONLY 1,355 SQM. WITH ALLOWABLE GROUND COVERAGE AREA OF 758 SQM. & HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS OF 9 RESIDENTIAL AND 2 COMMERCIAL LVLS.
To design a permanent residence for a family of four with 2 living areas, 2 guest bedrooms, gym, garaging for 2 cars. The design needed to achieve a zero carbon footprint and be visually integrated into the landscape.
