Aurora Borealis Observatory by Marcio Rodrigues

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Article source: Marcio Rodrigues

Universe, nature, man_these are the fundamental ideas behind our project. The conceptual approach was the analysis of the ancient monuments where, for the first time, Man started to connect with the skies. At the same time, we know that Man started to understand the sky, when he groups the several stars. Those constellations inspired us and one of the most visible and know throughout the world is Orion. This created a basis to understand a constellation in an architecture point of view and helped us to organize the program, the space and the circulations.

Wooden Structures in Göteborg, Sweden by Márcio Rodrigues

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Article source: Márcio Rodrigues

The project was develloped along the year, and it started with an urban analysis of the area of Göteborg located north of Nordstan comercial area. The strategy was to create a green corridor, along a small river that could be enhanced and reutilized. The strategy was a sort of spine, made by a interconection of green spaces, and some common elements define it: the river, the new proposed cycling lane and the pedestrian way. The structures that we propose are modular and there is a possible extension to the global intervention: a logic that can be repeated along all the system, adapting to the conditions of each site.

Raft represents an extension of the riverbank. The main idea was to create a pleasant environment, like staying under the ”tree shadow” an also above water. Atrium space is the central motif, with elements of natural environment (birch, stone, grass, etc.). The spatial organization consists of main entrance, wardrobe with toilets, café-restaurant with atrium and bar with storage space.

RA House in Santa Fe, Argentina by Pablo Anzilutti

Sunday, August 12th, 2012

Article source: Pablo Anzilutti

The project is developed in a plot whose bottom coincides with the perimeter of closure of a private neighborhood and beyond the limit, extends sown fields, allowing having a broader vision of the surrounding landscape and also having more privacy in the rear. Coincidentally, the rear facade is oriented to the north, so the most private part would have the best orientation.

The 14th Street Y in New York, NY by Z-A Studio

Saturday, August 11th, 2012

Article source: Z-A Studio

The design celebrates the biggest asset of the Y as a community facility; its diverse, multi generational user base. The identity of each programmatic space was enhanced, expressing multiplicity rather than institutional uniformity. The entry lobby, fitness center, locker rooms, studios, offices showers and pool are organized as a series of parallel bands. As members move through the different bands, they experience the immediacy of the simultaneous happenings that animate the building. The distinct character of the bands enables the modularity of the scheme, where one program space can be replaced by another (like slots in a computer) without compromising the integrity of the design.

Vars House in Madrid, Spain by Aceboxalonso

Friday, August 10th, 2012

Article source: Aceboxalonso

It is located on a hill, dominating the sights – Madrid is 12 km. far (or close) but the nearest context is understood as “natural”. It was a big house, and we wanted to make as small effect on the landscape as we could, but at the same time the landscape had to add a strong effect on the interior. No colors, no synthetic or “artificial” materials; as low as possible; the “profile” of the house had to talk the language  of the place as one more of the lines in the horizon.
