Lili’s Garden in Dommeldange, Luxembourg by EGB Hornung & Associés

Saturday, July 28th, 2012

Article source: EGB Hornung & Associés

Lili’s Garden was born from the renovation of an old farmhouse built to the end of 18th century in the picturesque area of Dommeldange. There are now eight apartments and two studios that took place there. Our desire was to preserve part of the identity of the building by improving the quality of life of its residents.

Article source: EMS Arquitectura

This is the first of 3 buildings projected for the “CARIÑO” institutional program, driven by social manager of Santiago de Cali and the Ministry of Education. It is located in the district 21, east of the city, adjacent to the Cauca River dam, on a lot that for years had been used by the community as a park, but legally would be destined for the construction of an educational institution. The development of the project would generate a new form of living space whereas their new occupants would be children between 2 and 5 years.

BEN : 40 x Residing in Aspern, Austria by SUE Architekten

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Article source: SUE Architekten

The plot, which spans across an area of 150 x 17 x 34m, is situated directly beside the old village green of Aspern; here we have conceived 40 apartments of two different construction types.

In the garden between the two apartment houses facing the street there are 18 town houses, discretely out of sight from the street. To ensure a high degree of residential quality and a sense of spaciousness despite the density of the development (45 %) and the short distance between the buildings compared to their height, the town houses are arranged in a staggered pattern to each other.

iProspect – Fort Worth in TX by VLK Architects

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

Article source: VLK Architects

iProspect is a leading, global digital marketing agency. The existing iProspect office was located in the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards, and respect for that heritage was implemented into their new office space, situated in Fort Worth’s Cultural District. The design intertwines the familiar, historical elements of Fort Worth with the modern, high-tech industry that iProspect serves. The new space, previously a metal fabrication warehouse built in the 1950s, had plenty of existing character including concrete columns with graffiti and a few masonry partitions, which were incorporated into the design.

Riverview Gardens Residence in AUSTIN, TEXAS by Bercy Chen Studio

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

Article source:  Bercy Chen Studio

RIVERVIEW GARDENS IS A SERIES OF 3 IDENTICAL HOUSES LOCATED IN AUSTIN, TEXAS, ONE BLOCK NORTH OF LAKE AUSTIN (NOW LADY BIRD LAKE). THE HOMES WERE INSPIRED BY HAMILTON POOL, A DEEP NATURAL ESCARPMENT WHICH FORMS A DRAMATIC WATERFALL NEAR AUSTIN. IN THE SPIRIT OF THAT WATERFALL, RAINWATER IS DIRECTED TO THE END OF EACH RIVERVIEW GARDEN HOUSE AND FALLS 3 STORIES IN A SHEET TO FORM A DRAMATIC WATERFALL, NOT UNLIKE THE RARIN SCREEN FOUND IN CLASSICAL CHINESE GARDENS. THE RAINWATER IS THEN COLLECTED IN AN 80’ LONG SHARED POND WHICH ON A BREEZY DAY PROVIDES SOME NATURAL COOLING TO THE HOUSES.

Article source: Gerville R. Larsen, A.I.A.

hus af lys” (Danish for “house of light”) is a single family residence located on the northside of the island of St. Croix. This contemporary residence uses sleek geometries and details to enhance the spectacular views towards Hams Bluff and the Caribbean Sea. St. Croix, the largest of the US Virgin Islands, is divided geographically into former plantation estates established during Danish Colonial rule. The Crucian landscape is dotted with predominantly stone monuments of sugar mills, smoke stacks and factory buildings, executed by highly skilled enslaved African craftsmen, which still stand almost intact today.

Indoor swimming pool in Litomyšl, Czech Republic by Architekti D.R.N.H.

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

Article source:  Architekti D.R.N.H.

Both the architectural and site designs strictly respect the project purpose and the site green context characterised by the touch of a considerable morphological promontory featuring grown trees, shrubs and grass-covered areas sloping down from the Černá Hora massif to the town. The overall volume of the hall is reduced as much as possible by fragmenting into several structural modules softly modelled into organic curved lines so that the shell of the building is visually linked to the Černá Hora slope. The grass-covered areas smoothly merge into the metal-sheet-covered roof. Different volume modules of the hall meet in a shared rounded top from which they continue sloping down in the form of a shed roof towards the west border of the site. The intervention of the structure is minimised especially from all sides visible from the town. The excavated soil has been reused for terrain modelling and rooftop fills reducing the hall operation and energy costs. The project has been designed on “landscape architecture” principles and meets all the parameters of an energy-saving building.

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

Article source: GANA Arquitectura

On numerous occasions architecture is the result of the negotiation conducted between key interlocutors (in this case, the architects and proposals) and the different types of space involved: the original space to act on, the determining and judging outer space, and especially, the new space to be generated.
