Beach House in Shima, Japan by Yamamori Architect & Associates

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

Article source: Yamamori Architect & Associates

When I first visited this site, I thought the key issues for this project were how to intertwine, dissolve, cut and take in elements of this natural environment, such as ocean, greenery, sky and wind. This site is located in a secluded bay on a ria coast where fishing and other boats come and from where the ocean can be viewed. The contrast of ocean and greenery is beautiful and a building was required for the client who will visit here sometimes to enjoy this place. There is a small road between the site and the ocean. Even though it is hardly used, I had to consider the lines of sight from outside and inside.

Located in front of Manila City Hall, the proposed project by HartnessVision integrates “water branding” into the landscape architecture of a Maynilad water distribution facility. The site is organized around 3 programmed, landscaped axes (nature, access, amenities) in which pedestrians have priority. The presence of systemic infrastructural strategy and notions of environmental stewardship permeate the design language.

A hotel that aims to reproduce in material form the ephemeral process of the diffusion of sound.  This is a process of vibrant outward expression and subsequent decay.  It is a narrative of the loss of integrity and dematerialization in space.

Bus Shelter in Daroca, Spain by Sergio Sebastián Architects

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

Article source: Sergio Sebastián Architects

The intervention builds a piece that receives the visitor who reaches Daroca providing him with a singular image in a peripheral environment that has nothing in common with the beauty of the medieval municipality. The urban area of Daroca answers to a geographical situation in which, before the construction of the Mine, the greatest ingenieril work of the s.XVI in Spain, the waters of all the territory flows across the city and its walls through its Maior Street, a cliff that drained in the river Jiloca. Outskirts are placed in the elongation of that cliff by the canopy, establishing a link with the former city from the reinterpretation of the structures of balconies and hanged houses that they showed on the Maior St. It is a piece that as tribute to this constructive tradition, generated from a structural and matter vision of the project.
