Sin Lounge Bar in Saigon, Vietnam by T3 Architecture Asia & Less Is More Design

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

Article source: T3 Architecture Asia

Designed by the studios “T3 Architecture Asia” and “Less Is More Design”, this elegant Lounge bar follows the thematic of the Sins. The design was pushed down to the smallest details (furniture, artwork, curtains selection, lighting), in collaboration with local enterprises as to show it’s possible to provide a high level of quality (design and construction) within a reasonable budget in Vietnam.  Architects voluntarily seek to distinguish the different areas corresponding to theseven deadly sins, while keeping the entire unit (level ground resin, stucco wall, styleof furniture).

Article source: Studio Ramoprimo

Competition and design task: the Competition was organized by the Chengdu Ministry of Culture and the Chengdu Culture and Tourism Development Group in December 2007. The site is located on the north-west of the central Tianfu Square, around which the city government is planning to build a double ring of public facilities. The first ring will be the new cultural center, including cultural and leisure facilities and museum buildings, the second and larger one will be a crown of CBD style skyscrapers. Coincidentally the site corresponds to the southwest corner of the disappeared “Si Chuan Gong Yuan”, ancient city wall from the Qing Dynasty. If you dig here, there is a good chance to find some of those old rests.

Common greenhouses on the roof tops, adjacent terraces overlooking the bay of Aarhus, and a sheltered green courtyard – all in close proximity to downtown Aarhus. This is the essence of Brabrand Housing Association’s new residential complex that breaks with both the port’s massive scale, and present iconic building tendencies. The project is expected to be completed for inauguration in December 2013.

Transformation in Charrat, Switzerland by clavienrossier architectes hes/sia

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Article source: clavienrossier architectes hes/sia

Situated away from a small village in the middle of the Swiss Alps (Canton of Valais), this 19th century house included an adjacent barn and had a too vast volume to be renewed in its totality. The existing building had no special qualities apart from the thick stone walls hidden by external plaster cement. The double-sided pitched roof was too low to allow us seeing the surrounding landscape from the garret floor. The existing windows were small; a large part of the volume was blind, half the building was being used as a barn. Consequently, we preferred to intervene directly on the existing building, walls and roof included.

BTEK – Technology Interpretation Centre in Zamudio, Spain by ACXT Architects

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Article source: ACXT Architects

BTEK is a new technologies interpretation centre, focused on student visits. The most significant determinants set by the developer, Parque Tecnologico SA, were the following:

  • The generation of a very flexible and varied exhibition area, capable of hosting all sorts of exhibition.
  • The design of high efficiency building services and the use of renewable energies.
  • The projection of a roof (destined to lodge the solar panels) of a similar geometry to that of its triangular logo.

One of the main goals of the project is to come up with an implantation solution adapted to the surroundings, in a plot with a certain geometrical and topographical complexity, uniting architecture and urbanization, thus deleting the limits between indoors and out.

Magdeburg in Germany by maxwan architects+urbanists

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Article source: maxwan architects+urbanists

Magdeburg, founded upon the Elbe River, has a history of scientific innovation. The scheme takes the existing bland, but quite functional campus and adds a series of gathering spaces. These linked spaces continue eastward to form the framework for the future development of a tech center, while also connecting to the historic harbor and the riverfront. This forms a car free spine that brings together diverse users to mingle in a series of mixed use spaces. Additionally, new pathways complete a previously broken link in the green network of the city. The signature element along the spine is a covered public forum that resides adjacent to the pedestrian underpass and is topped by a cinema and conference center.

Between Cathedrals in Cádiz, Spain by Alberto Campo Baeza

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Article source: Alberto Campo Baeza

The project “Between Cathedrals” seeks to create an intervention worthy of the most significant location in the history of Cadiz, the oldest city of the West: the empty space facing the sea located between the Old and New Cathedrals.

The basic premise is to cover and protect an archeological excavation. Additionally, this new plane serves as a base for a space facing the ocean, a raised public space providing clear views unobstructed by cars passing on the circle road.
