Article source: campos leckie studio

This project is a lane way structure that was designed prior to the City of Vancouver’s Laneway Housing Initiative.  It was conceived with two specific programmatic scenarios in mind – and immediate requirement for an 800sf working artist’s studio, storage space, and covered parking space; as well as a future agenda to be able to easily occupy the structure into a one-bedroom lane way dwelling.

Article source: Christian Kronaus + Erhard An-He Kinzelbach

In an aging society and due to the tendency in the industrialized west of extended lifetimes, the typology of nursing and retiree homes and its architectural manifestations increasingly gain importance. This happens especially in regards to these buildings’ relevance as people’s last home in life. In Austria, the public sector, in this case the state of Lower-Austria as the client for this nursing home project, accepts this challenge.

Glow 2010 – Luminous Passage in Santa Monica, California by Predock Frane Architects

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

Article source: Predock Frane Architects

For the 2010 GLOW we are proposing a linear spatial construction that links the City to the Ocean. Working with the site of the Bay Street boardwalk, we intend to make visible the connection across the sand to the edge of the ocean. This is a physical “land bridge” connecting the urban landscape of Santa Monica to the edge of the water, but also a conceptual leap that transitions from the “logics” that define the city to the those of the ocean. Taking the vertical nature of the city and merging it with the horizontal impulses of the pacific, we are proposing a visceral and intense space.

Lynch Street House in Auckland, New Zealand by Dorrington Architects & Associates

Article source: Dorrington Architects & Associates

The original 1970’s bungalow on this site had little to recommend it aside from extensive upper harbour views and adjacent sea views from the second floor. The clients were determined to maintain these views, along with the “beach-side” feel of this unique site.

dpHUE Concept Store in Maple Grove, Minnesota by Julie Snow Architects

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

Article source: Julie Snow Architects

dpHUE offers a fresh new brand, a new product and the importance of the customer experience. Their first retail location needed an architectural space to support their company’s mission. Customer experience was of the utmost importance and guided all design decisions from concept through completion. Customer consultation, product display, point of sale and customer demonstration areas were all critical programmatic components.  While the design was created to the specifics of this store location, the intent from the beginning was that this would be easily adapted when the company opened other locations. This adaptability of the design for future stores was addressed by defining several key components within the space that could be easily transferred to other spaces.
