Hotel Ayre Rosselló in Barcelona, Spain by Johannes K. Wortmann

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Article source: Johannes K. Wortmann

To be confronted with a building site in the shadow of the “Sagrada Familia“ a key work of  the Catalan master Antoni Gaudí, is an unique opportunity in the life of an architect.

We were perfectly aware that the particular modernist style – to be read as a Catalan version of Art Nouveau – influenced by surrealism, the colorful ornaments reflecting organic elements taken out of nature, as well as the daring structure of the cathedral, represents for the city of Barcelona the same overwhelming attraction as the Frank Gehry`s Guggenheim Museum for Bilbao.

Article source: Heri & Salli

The architecture studio heri & salli from Vienna conceived for one part of an already existing house in Austria/Klagenfurt a façade design made of perforated sheets of aluminum. Already existing views were picked up and subjected to a dynamic appearance. The object was to create a homogenous appearance, to reinforce and underline the presence of the existing cube and at the same time conserve functions like the view to the outside through the facade.

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Article source: John Mcaslan + Partners

The new Western Concourse at King’s Cross opens to the public on Monday 19th March 2012. “The transformation of King’s Cross station by John McAslan + Partners represents a compelling piece of place-making for London. The show-piece is clearly the Western Concourse – Europe’s largest single span station structure and the heart of the development, but the overall project is far more complex: an extraordinary, collaborative effort that has delivered an internationally significant transport interchange, fit for the 21st century and beyond. We are very proud of our role as lead architects and master-planners of the King’s Cross redevelopment, and it’s immensely satisfying to see the project delivered on time, ready for the capital’s celebration of the London Olympics later this year.”
