The Holocaust, a violation of our collective humanity, has affected the way in which we understand the world in which we live, it pre-conditions our decisions and our value judgements. These are the enduring consequences of human tragedy, they transcend generations and become part of who we are. The memorial is about all of us, past, present and future.

A Small School in The Grand Paris By Hubert & Roy Architectes Et Associés

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Article source: Hubert & Roy Architectes Et Associés

The school at Le Bourget is modelled after its changing neighbourhood, an area facing the landscape of Grand Paris, connected to the city by green “corridors”, and brought near Paris thanks to its nearby train station. Just like a vertebrate organism slipping into the fragmented plot, the school is designed based on a structure entirely made out of timber, digitized and optimized, prefabricated in a workshop-factory and mounted in a few months by two craftsmen. This structure, including structural frames every 1.50 m, is covered with a green roof for water retention and thermal mass. Elevations of the structure are cladded with glass and aluminium panels aligned on the 1.50 m frame to frame distance. Therefore, the aluminium envelope is only 4 mm thick and the insulation fits within the thickness of the structure.

Article source: Architektu biuras G.Natkevicius ir partneriai

This is the first crematorium in Lithuania. The idea to build a crematorium was born in the interwar period, but at that time only furnace to reduce medical waste in Kaunas hospital was built. Increasing cremation traditions Lithunians use cremation services in Latvia and Poland. To make a path for the first crematorium in Lithuania wasn’t easy. Despite the big enthusiasm, the catholic mind and political hypocrisy, the lack and imperfections of environmental and other laws were overcome only in 2011. The owners of Kedainiai crematorium, doctor and environmentalist, showed the strength.

House on Gelukstraat in Ghent, Belgium by Dierendocnkblancke Architecten

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Article source: Dierendocnkblancke Architecten

A very small plot in the centre of ghent. The client wants an extension of his house that borders the building plot, and an apartment to rent. On the ground floor we provide an atelier connected through a small courtyard with the owner’s house and entrance to the parent apartment. Given the very limited surface, circulation is minimized by placing the stairs to the upper floor in the living space. To maximize as much as possible the useful surface of the apartment, a very thin cladding is opted. So the whole volume is covered with a 2mm thick PVC-film.

Spröjs Villa by Visiondivision

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Article source: Visiondivision

The Spröjs Villa is a modern style summer house for people with high architectonical taste. The building is based on the Spröjs modular system and can grow in length to any size requested. The house could be just 30 m2, being a small pavilion, to being a slick 200 m2 villa. The house modular system is on every façade as well as the roof. In its original design the spröjs serves as beds, kitchen tables, sofas as well as bath tubs or pretty much any use that can be fitted into the Spröjs grid. The house slim floor plan does so that you will never be more than two meters from the outside and its open facades creates a house that always are in close contact with the outside just as a summer villa should be.

Article source: Cândido Chuva Gomes, Arquitectos

From an architectural point of view, the intervention cherished the idea of identification and inventory of the universe to safeguard, suggesting that the new volumes could act as a framework for the pre-existent elements.

The building is structured based on the idea of creating a central core, containing the collective use spaces, functioning as an interface between two large blocks of teaching, sports and recreational spaces.
