This projection came to life when Mr. Lavance and Benjamin Hall drank a few brew’s at a local pub. Lavance expressed his desire to shad his outdoor BBQ / kitchen. A few napkin sketches later and a real enthusiasm for raw materials that weather and age over time due to the brutal desert sun bearing upon. The high arcing paroblolic steel arcs crest to allow seating behind the counter on the east, while converging to the west to screen the Arizona summer sun.

CHURCH OF THE SÃO FRANCISCO CONVENT – REHABILITATION

Only a few signs remain of the original Franciscan convent established in the 13th century, which reveal its original configuration, considered the oldest religious building in Portalegre. Throughout the centuries, several building works have reconfigured the space of the church, both in shape and size. After the dissolution of the religious orders in 1834, the original body of the Convent was subject to successive adaptations and additions, resulting from the repurposing of the building, particularly related to the industrial processing of cork. The church, after 1910, lost its ecclesiastical function and was used in several different ways from that period onwards, suffering some reconstruction and recuperation during the 70’s and 80’s, which were not carried out in a manner that added value to or repurposed the building.

Lake Houses in Zurich, Switzerland by E2A (designed using AutoCAD)

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Article source: E2A Eckert Eckert Architekten

An existing late classical home (Villa Sonnenhof), marks the slight bend of the Seestrasse as it follows the shores of the lake. Along the villa, the former park stretched to the street above and opened dramatic vistas to the lake. Future densification on this site needed to offer views of the lake equally to all parties, but to avoid seeing their neighbors.

An Organic, Bioclimatic House in Brittany, France by Patrice Bideau (designed using Vectorworks)

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Article source: Patrice Bideau

This house on the shores of the Golfe du Morbihan, not far from AURAY, was built using organic architectural principals with a concentration of green energy components for maximum efficiency without resorting to technical sophistication. Completed at the beginning of this year, the house is situated in a region benefitting from oceanic climate conditions. The project was born of the owners’ desire to build a new house on their property in BADEN, incorporating a landscaped garden and a natural, chemical free swimming pool. These were created before construction began on the house in collaboration with a designer and a landscape gardener. The garden was designed to provide protection from Westerly winds with a vegetable garden to the East. A distinctive ambiance emerged from this new, natural environment surrounding the construction site.

Woven Bridge in Copenhagen, Denmark by MLRP

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Article source: MLRP ApS / Architecture, Research & Development

Danish-American Architects MLRP, based in Copenhagen, has completed a new foot bridge in Copenhagen Central Park.

The Woven Bridge is a modern interpretation of a classical steel park bridge.

With the new Woven Bridge, crossing the lake in Copenhagen Central Park and getting close to the water finally becomes possible. It allows for viewing the park and lake from new perspectives. The bridge is placed at the southern end of the lake and makes for a new shortcut, when crossing through the park. Designing the bridge, it was key to create a bridge that would blend into the landscape of the park but at the same time create a structure that has its own identity and personality. The bridge join the two banks of the lake, which are at different heights, with a slender arched structure. The foundations are concealed under the steel structure making the transition between bridge and nature more refined.

Liberty Hill Residence in San Francisco, California by Surface design, Inc.

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Article source: Surface design, Inc.

This garden in San Francisco has dedicated areas for entertaining and children’s play, which are defined and navigated by an innovative arrangement of local and sustainable landscape materials. Cor-Ten steel boxes serve as retaining structures and planters, extending along the site’s perimeter and penetrating the surrounding wood fence. The garden is an abstracted allusion to the dramatic topography of the city itself.

The site's steep slope creates a visual connection with the city beyond
