La Casa Permanent Supportive Housing in Washington, D.C. by Studio Twenty Seven Architecture

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: Studio Twenty Seven Architecture

Studio Twenty Seven Architecture, along with joint venture partner Leo A. Daly, is developing a design for the District-owned “La Casa” supportive housing project. The project is an important milestone for the District in its efforts to redefine the concept of housing for the homeless community. Rather than function as a shelter, the “La Casa” project will provide permanent, supportive housing for forty men. Each living unit is designed as a single-person efficiency that will provide stability and predictability for the tenants as they immerse themselves in day to day living.

Sport College in Leidsche Rijn, The Netherlands by Wiel Arets Architects

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: Wiel Arets Architects

Situated in the Leidsche Rijn, a newly built housing district within the periphery of Utrecht, the Sports Campus aims to contribute a public and rather iconographic aspect to the predominantly low-rise area, lacking points of recognition. Two schools, divided up into four wings, stretched out onto the boundaries of the terrain, are organized around a centrally positioned volume containing the shared facilities.

PH house in El Salvador, Argentina by Estudio HMA

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: Estudio HMA

From the beginning of the project we understood the intrinsic qualities associated with this piece of urban fabric. We here deal with a rectangular space with measures that do not exceed 7.50 m x 12.00 m located practically in the heart of the square. This is a dwelling unit of the type of the row houses in the city of Buenos Aires. At the beginning of the last century it was common to build small houses with the conceptual characteristics of the “sausage house” multiplied for the depth of an urban lot. The project then rose as a challenge to customer demands whose programmatic needs far exceeded the possibilities offered by the nature of the terrain. We also had to be aware of the constraints brought by the responsibility of reforming a historic site that was protected by the law of the city of Buenos Aires.

Cliff House in Gig Harbor, Washington by Scott Allen Architecture

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: Scott Allen Architecture

Tucked against the wall of a natural cliff and right on the water’s edge in Gig Harbor, Washington, this project answered the unique challenges of its site. The footprint for the new structure replaces an old guest house and boathouse, and was limited in its size by an agreement through a regulatory process.

Savonnerie Heymans Par in Brussels,Belgium by MDW Architecture

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: MDW Architecture

The Savonnerie Heymans complex won the MIPIM Award 2011 in the Residential developments category.

Brussels, March 16, 2012 – On the 6,500m² site of a former soap factory less than half a mile from the Grand’Place, the social housing project creates a real “village” of 42 sustainable accommodations of different types including studios, 1 to 6-bedroom apartments, lofts, duplexes and Maisonettes. Although a 100% public housing scheme, thanks to the diversity of its program the Savonnerie Heymans provides a variety of spaces echoing the diversity of the people living in the very heart of Brussels. Glass-enclosed bio-climatic loggias characterize the entire complex, providing an effective acoustical and thermal barrier but also providing a sense of privacy.

Gentilly by Emmanuel COMBAREL Dominique MARREC Architects

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: COMBAREL Dominique MARREC Architects

The project is primarily a proposal to articulate two territories, two urban landscapes separated by the influence of the device. This context of urban fringe releases a vast expanse where the vacuum is dominant, where the eye can see far. This work on the perception and interpretation of the landscape gives a facade gable major pivotal role. Whether from the device or from the streets of Gentilly, pine nuts are present, dominant in the interpretation of the building. The curvatures of the device and the notion of displacement generate a reading in perspective with always at least two fronts seen: the building will be seen from afar on the short sides, its angles. This unique landscape offers little end in front geometrical perception. We wanted to work on the expression of a complex volume to avoid any single side effect and literal as you can see the first door of Orleans, but instead propose a volume and a façade treatment that back and forth to unify the building over its entire periphery. So there is a unity of place generated for a project that must itself generate visual continuity, articulate landscapes, offering a calm picture, stretched taut between two territories.

Spröjs Cabin by Visiondivision

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: Visiondivision

Spröjs Cabin is a small 40 m2 summer house with a 20 m2 loft to host a normal family of a couple with two to three kids. Although it is fairly small the house includes a kitchen, a living room, a medium sized bathroom and an extra room plus a sleeping loft. The small size and the simple design of the house make it very easy to fit into almost any Scandinavian environment. The interior is however light and modern and very functional to serve the custom-made needs for any particular client.

The Cabin is designed for adaption to multiple settings not taking any particular site into consideration, being a product for mass-production distribution.

The general idea is to establish a Cabin-concept that favours a nice landscape setting with the need of appreciating a wonderful view. Two volumes containing bedrooms and service-area are composed in order to obtain the living and dining room space as glazed pavilion in-between giving contact to the nature in all directions.

Single House In Bescano, Spain by Josep Ferrando Bramona

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

Article source: Josep Ferrando Bramona

The house is situated on a crest, generating different relationships with its immediate environs.  On one side, the treetops are at the level of a veranda; on another side, the entwined branches, when viewed from the sitting area, act as a filter through which to contemplate the outdoors. The basalt-covered roof frames and underlines in black the views which provide different depth perceptions, thus offering the dweller a differing range of situational views.
