Villa Overlooking the Sea in Hayama, Japan by Edward Suzuki Associates

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

Article source: Edward Suzuki Associates

This is a vacation home expected to become a permanent house in the future. Located about an hour’s car ride away from downtown Tokyo, it is locatedin the sea resort of Hayama in the Shonan region, adjacent to the more well known, old city of Kamakura.

Sited overlooking the sea on the south, the design intent was to capture as much of the scenic panorama and to bring it into the house. Behind the house on the north is a hill clad with wild bamboos. Sandwiched in between the richness of the sea and that of the hill, the design was to open the house as much as was possible to the natural outdoors and to become a part of it.

Superbowl Project in Nakornsawan, Thailand by Supermachine Studio

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

Article source: Supermachine Studio

Thailand is a country at risk of water disaster both draught and flood. Considering its size, the country has a great length of rivers in its water network, specially the central delta. Together with monsoon behavior around the region, Thailand has always been worried about more than less water to use. But delirious sprawl of cities and irresponsible agriculture lands trigger huge imbalance of water flow; insufficient to use during dry season and larger scale flood during rainy season.

Single family property in Marbella, Spain by A-cero

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Article source: A-cero

A-cero presents one of its last projects in single family houses in Marbella. The property is placed on the outskirts of Puerto Banús, in one of the most famous and exclusive developments in the Sun Coast. This development is located on one side of a mountain but very close to the coast, with plenty of Mediterranean vegetation.

The plot where the project is located has a notorious slope that goes down to the South from the street access. This fact would determinate the design to adapt the house to the environment and achieve excellent views of the Mediterranean Sea.

The house is located in Sa Torre housing development, in a plot of land next to the cliff. The client, a well-known English writer, raises an extensive program to fulfill the needs of each of the members of the family. The infinite sights on the sea will be the basic premise of the project. The necessity to open the house to the landscape, taking advantage of the local characteristics, entails the disintegration of the volumes, fleeing from the massification.

Article source: KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten

Only three years after the German studio won the competition, the museum opens its doors to the public.

The Tianjin Art Museum, which in April 2009 took first prize in an international competition, has space to house four permanent exhibitions. In addition to rooms for Chinese calligraphy, western art, sculpture, and modern art, there are also galleries in which changing exhibitions can be presented. Together with three additional cultural facilities (a library, an opera house and another new museum) the new exhibition center forms part of a 90-hectare culture and leisure time development in the Hexi district of Tianjin. This new quarter is dominated by an extensive area of greenery boasting a lake. In the row of striking exhibition and cultural edifices, the art museum is located on the lakeside promenade, which its visible side and main entrance overlook. The new buildings used for cultural purposes face the road, i.e., in the direction of the city, thereby creating a harmonious overall impression.

New Brunner fair stand in Milan, Italy by Ippolito Fleitz Group

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Article source: Ippolito Fleitz Group

Brunner uses the occasion of the 2012 Milan Furniture Fair to present two new products: its ‘hoc’ stool and its ‘plot’ modular seating system. Ippolito Fleitz Group was commissioned once again to create a setting resembling an installation, an intense spatial experience in which to showcase Brunner’s new products. From a distance, the strictly black and white backdrop takes a back seat to the colourful seating objects, which draw visitors in to try them out. At closer look, the black and white backdrop transforms itself into a textual world, taking visitors on a poetic voyage of discovery, inspiring them to stop and tarry awhile.

Article source: Nabito Architects & Partners

The neighbourhood of Corso Lazio, in the city Of Frosinone, Italy, finally could enjoy its first public space , expected to be ready 35 years ago.

Sensational Garden represents the starting point of a big master-plan to renew and integrate the public spaces and the services to the housing neighbourhood. This lack of public spaces generate an absolute degrade of the entire area, and the neighbourhood has become an unsustainable dormitory. For this reason the project for the sensational garden amplify the idea of a relational space filling the social void with an explosive, playfull, sensorial and interactive intimate room, like a personal living room in a public realm. The garden is constantly in tension between artificial and natural elements.

The Loop in Hong Kong by Theo Texture

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Article source: Theo Texture

The LOOP is a 23-storey commercial building located in Central, Hong Kong, on a narrow rectangular-shape site. The design solution started out as a structural concept in response to the constraints of the site by running a folding floor slab from the bottom to the top of the building. When the building is view at its front façade, the edges of the folding slabs forms a “loop” shape, thus maximizing the glass frontage which is a full-height flushed window wall system. Cladded with white aluminum panels, this loop becomes the main feature of the building and the geometry is enhanced by a color-changing LED strip running along this loop.

This not only involves research and innovative projects concerning care and living, but also new integrated residential care concepts and an overall high standard public space. Bureau B+B and B-architecten asked themselves how far Turnhout’s aspirations could be translated into a distinctive urban design structure, an identity for the ‘Innovatiepool’ and how could ‘Innovatiepool Turnhout’ be formed into a characteristic urban design typology and corresponding public space. There is a square at the middle of the ‘Innovatiepool’, the central meeting place for the area.
