Prismatic Colours in Montreal, Canada by Jean Verville Architecte

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Article source: Jean Verville Architecte

In downtown Montreal, a loft for an artist who collects contemporary art and design objects is intended to be a tribute to creativity. Architect Jean Verville designed this unusual interior, which is both playfully colourful and sometimes a calm, peaceful white.

To satisfy a client who wants his home life to stimulate creativity and lead him to explore new avenues of work, Verville offers an environment that distils the essence of its owner. Using minimal interventions and simple materials, the architect awakens the senses and blurs the perception of the space.

Confederação Nacional de Municípios in Brazil by OSPA

Article source: OSPA

Since its inauguration, Brasília is present in the imagination of all of the modern architects. Besides all of the inherent symbolism, designing in Brasília presupposes a contextualization with its monumental scale. The architecture that makes Brasília unique, sometimes also makes it distant from the human being and its needs.

Foot- and Cyclebridge over the Rhein in Huningue, France by Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Article source: Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes

Two main roads, the “Hauptstrasse” in Weil am Rhein, Germany, and the “Rue de France” in Hunningue, France, are situated on the same axis. To emphasize this highly symbolic and visual connection between the two countries, the footbridge is put along the axis and not into it for the view not to be disturbed. This visual connection is enhanced by the physical one, as the design of the bridge is a response to the situation. The technical challenge is evident.

An Innovative 21st Century Student Advising Center at Columbia University

In 2007, Columbia University fundamentally redesigned their student advising philosophy and approach to enhance the overall undergraduate experience. Like many other American colleges and universities in the last 20 years, the existing faculty-centric advising system was viewed as unresponsive to the needs of the rapidly diversifying student body and the student life, financial, and post graduate planning issues students face in the 21st century.

Article source: Santiago F. Carnerero

The location of housing has been decisive in the genesis and  development of the project, first of all we find a neighborhood of single  family housing developments with a conventional architectural language  and the other hand a steep slope of land with beautiful views over the  banks of Bernesga river. The choice of a single material such as concrete  facilitates the resolution of structural problems associated with  establishing in this difficult location and stresses in sharp contrast with  its surroundings a commitment with contemporary architectural  language.

Rabbit Hole in Gaasbeek, Belgium by LENS°ASS Architects

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Article source: LENS°ASS Architects

The old farm house  comprises five buildings and is located on a unique site in close proximity to the Gaasbeek Castle. What strategy needs to be developed to revive a dilapidated building without reconstructing it in a nostalgic manner? The decisive question is how such a homestead  can be adapted to modern housing requirements without destroying its agricultural character.
