71 Council and Private Flats in Sète, France by Colboc Franzen & Associés

Friday, June 15th, 2012

Article source: Colboc Franzen & Associés

The building plot lies on the thin strip of land between the Étang de Thau and the Mediterranean Sea on the northern side of the old town, close to the commercial port and its huge industrial facilities. How should we evoke the site’s past and at the same time, through architecture, forge a modern identity for this entrance point to the town of Sète and its emerging neighbourhoods? How should we respond to the titanic scale of the port, with the sea as the horizon, while also maintaining the old town’s way of living?

Cold Hawaii in Klitmøller, Denmark by Force4 Architects

Friday, June 15th, 2012

Article source: Force4 Architects

A rural area with potential

The new surf-culture house situated on the tip of Klitmøller’s magnificent coastline has been named “The Lobster House”.

The name was given due to the building’s former function as a repository for live lobsters before they were sold at auction. Today, there are no lobsters! Instead, there is space for the surf club, NASA. The clubhouse was designed by Force4 Architects, as an extension of the terrain, creating one fluid landscape. With this vision in mind, the roof not only functions as an important element in relation to the building’s users but also as an attractive transition between landscape and building, culminating in a public viewing point for all visitors.

Article source: Casanova+ Hernandez Architects

The project “Black & White Twins” experiments with the spatial and visual integration of compact collective housing solutions in the new exclusive urban development of Blaricummermeent, which is mainly formed by single-family houses and villas. The twin buildings provide affordable apartments within small-scale housing blocks, four levels high, minimizing the footprint of the intervention, the volume of the buildings and therefore their physical impact in the residential area.

Le Mon House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by Fabian Tan Architect

Friday, June 15th, 2012

Article source: Fabian Tan Architect

The renovation for this 1.5-storey terrace home was meant to be quite simple, but it became a more extensive project. The owners, a mother and her daughter, were very receptive to new ideas. The principle idea of the design is inspired by the Japanese culture ideal on detail and restraint. This intention was expressed through light and material to form the pureness of space. Almost all the details were construed through reasoning more than mere aesthetic play.
