Architecture as an expression of changing times

Kaohsiung city is a port and, as many other ports is in a situation of changing. The reasons of this changing have been very well analysed by many.. factories that move their production somewhere else. the decreasing of the traffic on the sea.. and many others depending on the particular locations. New York and London already provided, at least partially, to reconvert the unused piers or the part of the city close to the sea or the river previously dedicated to the maritime traffic to other destinations and a different life. The case of Kaohsiung is somehow similar, but there is a difference in the conception of the changing and the strategy related. Many cities just dismissed their piers and their warfs because they were useless and decided to dedicate these part of the city to new and different destinations.

Hanging Hotel by Decodeine

The following project commissioned by Holden Manz & FOCUS gallery Cape Town, situated in South France Massif de L’ Esterel, uses architecture to dictate and choreograph our perceptions of immediate contexts and environments.

The hanging platforms offer a rest for rock climbers, a pause enabling them to enjoy the views and environment for a longer period before setting off on their journey once more. The surfaces are partly embedded partly protruding from the existing rock face structure. A grid of borehole foundations injected into the rock face expand into the existing granite, clamping the main body of the structure into the façade.

Audiochmura by Mode:lina architekci s.c.

A project of Audiochmura (sonic cloud – loosely translated) was inspired by the concept of Audioarchitektura (sonicarchitecture) – brainchild of artist Piotr Adamski and mode:lina.

It is a sonic installation using corrugated pipes as amplifiers emitting sounds gathered around its actual position. The shape of a cloud relates to something ephemeral, almost non-existent and likely to move.
