Article source: GRAUX & BAEYENS Architecten

A narrow plot in combination with a very dens program (a home and a physiotherapist practice) resulted in a building that challenges the envelope of the planning regulations.

To escape the limitations of de non-building area’s on the sides of the house, the  traditional dwelling-program is switched: the day-light functions ( kitchen, dining room, living room en terraces) are located on top of the night functions (bedrooms and bathrooms).

The contract to design Ireland’s first large scale urban wetlands and park surrounding a modern sports stadium, which it is hoped will act as a catalyst project for the redevelopment of Cork Docklands, has been awarded by Cork City Council.

The winning concept design, led by the Dutch landscape architects OKRA in cooperation with the Irish landscape architects REDscape, took the City Council’s brief for the redevelopment of Marina Park to a new level and offers an exciting vision of dynamic landscapes and ecosystems tailored to a modern and developing city. The design concept includes a sequence of urban water gardens, watercourses and wetland areas that will recycle storm water from the adjacent docklands and create a sustainable environment for the new city park on the River Lee.

Cräche rue Pierre Budin in Paris, France by Agence ECDM

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

Article source: Agence ECDM

The project takes place into a heterogeneous district made of buildings of any sizes, of any styles, any periods. It’s an environment slightly old-fashioned, hybrid and disintegrated, typical of the heterogeneous architecture which characterizes the Parisian peri-urban zones. Modernity came to complete this disorder : Adjacent to the site, an out of size construction, built  in derogation of the property limits (adding a supplementary urban intention parameter),  forbids any common denominator, any possibility of creating a homogeneous composition. The day-nursery is thus an attempt, for a tiny building of public utility, to exist in an unfavorable relationship in the shade of a twelve story construction which takes light, overhangs and crushes everything.
