Ceramics of Italy by Sergio Mannino Studio

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: Mannino Studio

The secret garden is one of Italy’s most characteristic places. Enclosed by four walls and protected from the chaos of the town, these gardens were literally private paradises for the use and enjoyment of rich aristocrats or, more often, for monks and nuns.

The booth for Ceramics of Italy is intended to be a little private paradise where people can rest from the chaos of the show and enjoy the best Italian food and coffee.

V4 House in Sao Paulo, Brazil by Studio mk27

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: Studio mk27

With each new project contemporary architecture is forced to optimize spaces and use the maximum of each square meter of the site.  V4 House is a rare anti-example.   Its occupation of the land is very far from the maximum coefficient.  Laws allow for much larger constructions. The solution adopted, however, dialogues with the dimension of the site, formulating an adequate relation between the scale of the construction and the site.

Hillside Residence in Kentfield, California by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects

The house is sited to engage the undulating hillside and capture the spectacular views of Mount Tamalpais and the San Francisco Bay. A curved retaining wall follows the contours of the hillside and anchors the house to the steep site. The house is tucked under the living roof, which visually merges the house with the land. Growing out of the hillside, the roof is carved away to form a protected courtyard for the pool.

Kinetic Pergola by Brian Lee

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: Brian Lee

Blurring the boundaries between architecture and furniture this work dissolves the abstract relationship between architectural form and the body into one of a more direct experiential correlation, questioning architecture as object and proposing an architecture where form is the result of action and use.

Tokachi Millennium Forest in Hokkaido, Japan by Dan Pearson Studio

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: Dan Pearson Studio

Hokkaido, the northernmost island of the Japanese archipelago, equivalent in size to Ireland, is nearly two hours’ flight north of Tokyo. Winter is the dominant season there and it arrives early, with autumn colour arriving in early September, the landscape snow covered by the end of October, and no sign of a thaw until late April. At its coldest the temperature plummets to minus twenty-five degrees centigrade.

Global style in Tokyo, Japan by Process5 Design

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: Process5 Design

The first Tokyo branch of Global Style, a made-to-order suit shop, has opened in Kanda, the textile quarter of eastern Tokyo. Kanda is home to a number of pharmaceutical and trading companies and it was assumed that the main customer target would be businessmen passing the shop. As it is also within walking distance from Akihabara, it was considered that people who normally don’t have much to do with suits would also pass by.

Recreation Center + Sports Facility in Falmouth, UK by The Galante Architecture Studio

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: The Galante Architecture Studio

This project is an award-winning youth recreation center, and sports facility in the Town of Falmouth. The site is a long, sloping slice of land between an existing gymnasium, and the playing fields. We designed the new building to re-establish the privileged viewing position that the original building enjoyed. Generous amounts of glass are set into a wall clad with concrete panels. The inside gathering space allows spectators to watch as teams trot to the fields, play their game, and return in victory (or defeat).

As a winner in the design excellence competition, TGAS was awarded projects with the City of New York. This expansion of an existing fire station is clad in a terra-cotta rain screen, with inset cement board panels. Grey was chosen as a conceptual record of ashes found after a building fire. Southern sun is modulated with a brise-soleil (sunscreen), which incorporates the FDNY logo.

House F in Trieste, Italy by BiasiBonominiVairo Architetti

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Article source: BiasiBonominiVairo Architetti

The operation of transforming a villa on the coast of Trieste stands as a moment marking a break in the equilibrium between violently rugged landscape and its control through rationalization and terraced gardens, retaining walls and residential volumes. In this sense, the renovation of a split-level house dating back to early 70s, by the partial demolition of existing building structure and the reorganization of the distributive spaces, looks for a new dynamism and a new relationship with the landscape, natural and man-made.
