Rose Library in Norman, Oklahoma by John Postic

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Article source: John Postic

Libraries today serve as gathering places, community centers, and cafes. We need to stop viewing libraries as sacred temples of reading and research and more as a collective gathering place of people, ideas, events, and resources; a place that incites imagination and satisfies curiosity – a veritable flowering of culture. With a form that evokes the Oklahoma Rose, this library has a multi-layered skin that passively filters light, sound, and visitors to the library. These ‘petals’ diffuse the light entering the library, reducing solar heat gain and providing excellent reading light.

Manta Reactive Acoustic Surface by ARCHGEOMETER

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Article source: ARCHGEOMETER

Manta is a surface that changes  form – and therefore acoustic character – in response to multimodal input through Open Sound Control [OSC], including stereoscopic vision, multi-touch, sound, and brainwaves. While adaptable acoustic treatments are common, Manta explores variability and responsiveness in the surface itself, advancing acoustic systems beyond individual elements and corrective treatment.

Article source: Takato Tamagami Architectural Design

This is a two-generation family housing situated on high ground in Tokyo metropolitan area. The housing is composed of two interlocked volumes of A-House and B-House.  We intend to provide completely different spatial sequences in both houses.

The site is 15m(width) x 30m(length), long in south-north direction. Church, which is mainly used as facility for wedding parties, is located on the west side. We created a U-shaped volume and a courtyard in the middle, in order to get enough sunlight from all directions. Exterior finish is white cement plaster exposed aggregate finish with coral sand. The white volume sits on the basement, where separate entries to both houses and car parking are located.

Article source: KM Architektur

This family house was planned and built during the creation of the surrounding agricultural farmstead. The new house is located a short distance from the farm complex, in the middle of an orchard. An elongated one-story building appears to float slightly above the flat lawn. The flat roof and the north façade, together with a slightly raised floor envelope, are all clad in copper and protectively encase the floor to ceiling glazing on the east, west and south façades.

Stamboldzioski Dental Studio in Nova Gorica, Slovenia by ENOTA Architects

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

Article source: ENOTA Architects

Stamboldžioski Dental Studio is located at the outskirts of the city, in a residential community featuring mostly single-family homes. It has been built as a replacement for the cramped surgery in the dentist’s private house, which was set up on the ground floor. It is therefore an annex, whose floor area – as it so often happens in such cases – exceeds that of the house it has been annexed to. Furthermore, its programme significantly differs from the predominant function of the vicinity.

House Playa El Golf H4 in Lima, Peru by Roberto Riofrio Navarro

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

Article source: Roberto Riofrio Navarro

The housing unit is a temporary summer home developed in the coastal desert of Lima, 95Km from the city. The stretch of land stands on a moderate slope in a privileged location with a frontal view to a golf course and a lateral view to the sea.

As a starting point, stands a large, comfortable terrace ending in a longitudinal swimming pool, which represents the main living space. On both sides of the plot, green areas may be found, which allow for natural illumination on the lower levels.  These green areas define a lighter upper volume, which when separated from the base, takes the stage as the central element of the composition. This volume was given a starring role by working it in a closed way and by giving it a light, clearly defined aesthetic.
