Restoration Of Son Canoves Houses By Duch Piza Arquitectos & Iciar De Basterrechea

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Article source: DUCH PIZA ARQUITECTOS

Restoration of a group of “casas de possessió” (local country houses) from the CXIX, of thin, rectangular plan, and three stories in the central area, which decrease in steps on the sides, forming terraces that overlook the surrounding gardens of the house. Later this garden was transformed into a public space, totally independent of the building, which was in an abandoned state.

Soaring 95 stories above the South Bank of the Thames, The Shard at London Bridge Quarter is the tallest building in Western Europe. As its name suggests, the building is comprised of multiple glass shards that merge to form an elongated pyramid, creating a complex structural form with many design challenges. The skyscraper was also designed for sustainability, using recycled construction materials and targeting an “Excellent” BREEAM rating. The developer, Sellar Property Group chose WSP to deliver a technical solution for The Shard that was financially viable.

K-HOUSE in Nagoya city, Japan by D.I.G Architects

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Article source: D.I.G Architects

A small house located on a steep slanting slope. The client simply wanted a life with a blessing of nature nearby and the beautiful townscape in distance. The site was steeply sloped down, almost like a cliff, leaving only a narrow platform wide enough for a car. We first had an idea to excavate the ground to generate a living space.  Corresponding the nature form, heterogeneous and flexible space would retrieve the enchantment of the site. Not a house constructed on a cliff, but a habitat generated by the nature form of the cliff. A habitat like a pit or a shed posteriorly discovered in the terrains of landscape.
