Ants’ House in Madrid, Spain by Espegel-fisac Arquitectos

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Article source: Espegel-fisac Arquitectos

The Ants’ House is formally conceived considering the surrounding environment and its location on a large plot in the Manzanares Park, immersed in the mountains near Madrid.

The house is meant to dominate the vast natural world which lies beyond its entrance. Its shape is designed by nature. Just like an outstretched hand, the house works its way through the almond trees reaching out from in between the branches, reaching towards different spaces and lights effects.

Imperial Centre Theatre in Rocky Mount, North Carolina by Clark Nexsen

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Article source: Clark Nexsen

The site for the Imperial Centre Theatre is across an abandoned street from the historically significant Imperial Tobacco Company cigarette factory in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. This site, which has been a city park for the past century, was formerly occupied by a public swimming pool. The Imperial Centre Theatre is linked to the larger complex by an enclosed bridge that spans over the abandoned roadway. This bridge is designed to allow the presence of the historically significant street to be understood while minimizing the impact on the character of the original buildings. The structure and plan alignment of the bridge were derived from the existing overhead gantry previously used for transporting coal to the central boilers. The Imperial Centre Theatre seats 300 people in a surprisingly intimate relation to the stage.

Fayetteville Festival Park Performance Pavilion in North Carolina by Clark Nexsen

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Article source: Clark Nexsen

The Performance Pavilion is the major architectural element in the overall plan of the new Festival Park in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It is comprised of a raised, covered stage, and back-of-house functions in a simple, rectangular extrusion. It is intended that, on a daily basis, the pavilion appears more like a park folly than an empty stage. To this end, the back-of-house functions slide to one side, allowing an open view through to the backdrop of existing trees. Operable panels, which can be retracted from behind a scrim wall, create a backdrop and crossover when performances are taking place.

N2X035 HOUSE in Azores Islands, Portugal by N2X Arquitectos

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Article source: N2X Arquitectos

This project is located on a plot of land of some interest in a place called Lugar da Ribeira da Praia. We started from an unusual context, as this plot housed some ruins at a higher location, naturally kept apart from the surrounding lower agglomerate with which it apparently dialogues and which we then designated as “village”.

Seacliff House in Sydney, Australia by Chris Elliott Architects

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Article source: Chris Elliott Architects

A house for a family of four.

Everyday life occurs on a platform overlooking the sea. Beneath this the rock is carved out to form a grotto. Above the platform is a protective cocoon for sleeping. Astride all this at roof level sits a belvedere accessible only via a narrow curved stair, as in a Martello tower.

The piece is inserted in the historic center offering a renewed image from the traditional imaginary. The connection of the volumes at the end of the courtyard and the inner spatial distribution, organizing servant and served spaces- enable a clear and easy travel throughout the building.
