The theme of sustainability became mandatory today. Residential, commercial environments, building sites of any scale must be sensitive not only to reuse, as well as the adaptation of materials in use which until then was very different purposes for the construction.
And it was precisely in this spirit of recycling and reuse coupled with countless aesthetic possibilities that this project was prepared.

Cities Of The Future by Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture

Sunday, September 16th, 2012

Article source: Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture

KKA presents two visionary cities of the future. These stories are raising questions on how we can coexist with the nature and technology surrounding us, what kind of spaces that are left for human life in an ever more congested world.

EARTHCITY

Once there was a city that moved underground. During many centuries it had spread over ever larger areas absorbing its neighbouring cities and eventually covering almost a whole continent with urban fabric. Food was grown in towers and warehouses, agricultural land and parks were too valuable not to be covered with buildings. With time the desire for nature grew stronger among the inhabitants; they dreamed of walking in a forest, going fishing, listening to birds, or climbing a mountain.

Generationen Wohnen Am Muehlgrund in Vienna, Austria by ARTEC Architekten

Sunday, September 16th, 2012

Article source: ARTEC Architekten

The Vienna rapid-transit line known as U2 originates at Karlsplatz and heads north, crossing the Danube. In Stadlau the tracks are elevated and pass over a train station. Just to the north of this convergence lies the Stadlau rapid-transit station. The tracks continue on, turning to the east and still elevated – at a height of 12 metres in this segment, and each direction supported separately. Parallel and to the south of the elevated tracks, at a distance of 8 to 12 metres from them, is the site of the 7-storey, 90-metre-long, 15-metre-wide building – the allowable massing determined by an urban design competition. The bar-shaped building, with only a minimal strip of land surrounding it, screens the low-slung structures to the south – also just recently completed – from the tracks.

Glacier in Lucerne, Switzerland by Gus Wustemann Architects

Sunday, September 16th, 2012

Article source: Gus Wüstemann Architects

The project was to design a new generous loft in the attic of the house at loewengraben 13 in the old town of Lucerne, Switzerland. the raw interior work was already finished. the challenge of the situation; a rather dark space, as there were only small roof windows, a skylight and a terrace with a great view on the top floor. the terrace was accessed by small stairs and the gallery floor blocked the light from entering the flat. the shape of the original space was a rectangle with the two long hard walls squashing the space.
